Is it wrong for someone running for President to have tax-sheltered accounts in other countries?

Last edited Mon Jul 9, 2012, 05:23 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1)

Nobody knows where Mitt Romney has his money or how much he might have?

He wants to be President of this country but he doesn't want to invest his money in this country. He has taken it overseas, to Switzerland or the Cayman Islands or somewhere else, to escape paying taxes to the country that he wants to lead. Does that sound like someone you would want to lead your country?

And why has he not cleaned up this mess by now? He has been running for President for years and he still has these foreign accounts? Why? Is he so greedy that he wants that extra 10-15% in tax breaks, even if voters question his judgement in investing in these countries?

So far, nobody has said that anything is illegal. But he refuses to disclose what he has or where? Is this the type of person this country is going to put in the White House? I certainly hope not.

Considering no one has seen 0bama's grades, you really don't have a leg to stand on complaining about secrecy.

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

  • God help me I do love it so
I'm afraid Romney won't take that shot. Hopefully he turns a surrogate or two loose to do it.

For a lot of you, if he's a conservative, just being alive is wrong.

When Obama releases his records I will worry about Romney's. Until then, I will just ignore Romney's like the liberals are all ignoring Obama's.

Well, kentuck, What are the requirements to BE President?

US Constitution, Article II, Section 1 covers the requirements, and I did not see that mentioned.

You might not like it, but there it is.
This too shall pass.

Is it wrong for a convicted felon to give you a sweet heart deal on the property next door?

Is it wrong to have a convicted terrorist and murderer be your mentor?

Is it wrong to have a racist as your spiritual mentor for 20 years?

Is is wrong to vote present 85% of the time while a legislator?

I could do this all day long.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Who needs a tax shelter if you're friends with Obama? Hell, just don't pay 'em.
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

Yeah, maybe some others can confirm or correct it.  I'm confident that's what we called him here.  I can't account for other boards.

Effin' kerry is lurch. Also known as horse face. (or ass)
Gore is manbearpig.
Been that way for years.
Then-Chief Justice John Marshall observed, “Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.”

John Adams warned in a letter, “Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.”

Has our Secretary of State and former Presidential candidate ever come clean on her financial dealings?
Does the sitting President wish to have a press conference regarding his former and perhaps current drug and alcohol use?

Didn`t think so.

It would be interesting to see Obama's tax returns before Michelle's sweet $317k a year non-position position at Chicago Medical Center and after.  Also I would love to see his returns as he moved his way up the political ladder. Follow the trail, that hospital is a wealth of "money laundering" for Obama staffers and supporters.  Also, that same hospital shuns the poor uninsured.

Romney can do whatever he wants with his own money as far as I'm concerned.  He's a straight arrow so I'm sure that wherever he's got his money it's all on the up and up.  It would be stupid to turn over any more than required to the treasury and have it pissed away on some cowboy poetry festival or a community center named after a dead democrat klansman senator.

This has already been checked out and all of it is perfectly legal.  Clearly the Dems want to make a big stink of it, but that's all it is.  Oooohhhh look, a shiny object.

This is all a fact of the left thinking that people should worry about what Romney does with his own money, rather than worrying about what Obama and Mooch-elle does with the tax payers money. It is just another distraction on their part - They don't want to talk about the real issues (Healthcare and the economy) because they know they will surely lose their ass.
