Mitt is the leader of the spiteful generation who still complain that longhairs got all the action.

Huh? Hate to tell ya this, but I didn't see the cheerleaders running off with the hippies.  Now the color guard girls, that's another story, but they always seemed to have something to prove.

Quote
This is just a grudge match going back to the 60's. This fight has been pasted down to their offspring who believe if they worked hard and go along to get along, the overlord would treat them right.

What overlord?  What you saw was people who worked hard and played hard, celebrated their successes and mourned their losses.   It infuriates you that they didn't crawl into ditch when they had a loss, they went back to work.

Quote
Now they are confused and angry and Obama is caught in the middle. His mom is who they really hate and remind them of what they think they lost.

She was a barking moonbat.  She also was rather homely.  If that is the action the short-hairs lost out on, I doubt the emotion is hate.

Quote
Something they never had and were too timid to laugh, have fun, and enjoy life.

No, they laughed, loved, and enjoyed life.  They just didn't spend it juiced to the gills.

2. I've been convinced of that for years.

They needed to eat the acid more than anyone, but were too afraid.

They couldn't get laid during the 'Summer Of Love'.

Yeah, they needed to take mood altering chemicals, right.  They got laid, they just didn't collect all the weird diseases you filthy hippies did.

5. Hey,. Hey!! this is my generation.

Don't tar us all with that feather.

I used to drink some back then, but never ever did drugs. They were illegal. I was also not rich and appreciated the state scholarships that were easy to get and parlayed my affordable education into a long IT career - until I was outsourced at 59. But , being the ant of the ant and grasshopper story, I had enough to retire then.

I never dressed as a policeman, was taught to be polite, never bullied anyone. You can be a straight arrow and still be a good person. I also marched for woman's rights, marched on Washington, protested the war in Vietnam, etc.

Most of the liberals I know now are in their 60's. It is the ones in their 40's where I find conservatism rampant.

In OTW, you were a beggar and a hangar on.  According to the OP if you weren't stoned and being passed around, you weren't one of his group.

I don't know where they get the notion that us conservatives are unhappy people. Just compare this site to DU. Here you see lots of humor and laughing, and folks having a good time. On DU I've seen funerals with more smiles than you find at DU, and that even applies when they win. There was no joy in DUmmyland from 2009 through 2011 when they owned the government.

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

I suspect sinking_john and Nads are sitting outside some swanky bistro in SanDiego, chugging mugs of MD20/20.
Then-Chief Justice John Marshall observed, “Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.”

John Adams warned in a letter, “Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.”

I've always found it amusing that the primitives take themselves and their feelings so seriously, when in fact the primitives are about the last people who need to be taken seriously.

Like, for example, I don't think Atman's taking something in good humor right now.

Part of having a good sense of humor is not taking yourself or the world too seriously, yes there are situations where adults have too, but most of life met with a good sense of humor flows a whole lot better. Primitives can not do this and that is why they have the suicide prevention hotline on speed dial.

Indeed. Hell, Id say at least three quarters of the stuff I post here is at least partially tongue-in-cheek, if not entirely satirical. Life is too short to waste on being perpetually outraged and/or depressed.

Every once in awhile I get a little depressed thinking of what a second term for Barry would do to us, but then I remind myself that we have a chance to send him packing.

Probably not.

My Grannie lived well into her 80s, and her biggest complaint was that her brood never went to church enough.  We were sitting there at the funeral, and the pastor that had retired and then taken over preaching responsibilities at another church got up and started into a long winded sermon, about how we needed to save our souls and get right with the lord.  About halfway through the sermon, I looked at the coffin and then at the preacher and thought, "Well look at this Grannie you got us all together for one last sermon!"  I was grinning ear to ear and elbowed my sister, who I realized was covering her chuckles into her hankerchief.

I then realized a good portion of the family was thinking the same thing.  I still wonder if that preacher knew what all the smiles were about.

My dad grew up in New York (da Bronx).  His parents told him if he wanted long hair, he better learn to play the violin.

:lmao:

New Yorkers tell it like it is.

We lived in a typical dump apartment when I was a kid, damn hippies upstairs were heroin addicts, we used to be out playing and find their needles, there was 1 girl named Debbie, she was high and sitting on the stoop looking like a zombie, my Dad figured he'd "learn me something" so he calls me back and starts showing me all the track lines all over her arms and telling me the dangers of drugs. It was a good lesson actually.

I had shoulder length hair right up to the day before I shipped for bootcamp at Great Mistakes. It's been short every since then.

I even had a peace sign necklace and a thunderbird necklace in junior high, but never did any drugs.

You wore necklaces?  Are you a girl?

(My parents would have put me in a hole in the ground if I showed up wearing a necklace.)

I usually don't like long hair on men, but I have to admit some heavy metal bands from the 80's were sexy.

Most of the liberals I know now are in their 60's.

Except for the Hollywood types, I find that to be generally true.  It's really going to take the next 20 years of these 1960's Summer of Love types dying off before there's any real hope of getting rid of them altogether.  Nice to know they wasted their whole lives trying to beat "the man" when they could have been doing something of benefit, like actually being working and productive citizens.

When I was growing up, my 2 brothers and I always got our haircuts from our Dad, who only knew one cut, BUZZ!

About the time I turned 13, I discovered girls and motocross, and Dad allowed us boys to start to grow our hair longer.  When I met the first mrs. diesel at 16, my hair was longer than hers!
