As with the tread I posted from DU's ZombieHorde, anything involving any of their pet causes is augmented by the circumstances surrounding the person.
EG. George Zimmerman : He is Hispanic - which isn't a race, but an indicator that he hails from a Spanish speaking country in the Americas, unless it is someone they like, then it is a minority status race, deserving of all the trappings a minority should recieve in DUland.
Unless it's Zimmerman. Even though he is an Hispanic Democrat, who is something like 25% black, he is a crack-ass honkey rethug because he did something DU doesn't approve of.
I suppose with those of Asian heritage its the same thing. Poor, downtrodden, and struggling liberal = minority. CEO of a multinational company = honkey-ass cracka.
As for loss:
There is always a 'loss' - but I think the question should be does it impact your (or in this case, the bear's) life to the point where the person who lost their elderly grandmother or the bear had to radically retool their life because of the change ?
In the case of the bear, I would say no - the bear goes back to being a bear.
In the case of grandma, I'd say it depends.
Did the affected people live with and/or associate with grandma every day ? or did they just send a Christmas card to her once a year ?
As for DU3 :
Improved from my perspective = yes ! It has more comedica value than ever.
