Iran’s Basij Press is claiming that a version of the Gospel of Barnabas, found in 2000, will prove that Islam is the final and righteous religion and the revelation will cause the collapse worldwide of Christianity.

Turkey confiscated a leather-bound text, written on animal hide, in an anti-smuggling operation in 2000. Turkish authorities believe the text could be an authentic version of the Gospel of Barnabas, one of Jesus’ apostles and an associate of the apostle Paul.

This version of the Barnabas Gospel was written in the 5th or 6th century and it predicted the coming of the Prophet Mohammad and the religion of Islam, the Basij Press claims.

The Christian world, it says, denies the existence of such a gospel.

However, religious scholars have said another version of the Barnabas Gospel, discovered a century ago, was written less than 500 years ago, which would post-date Mohammad.

http://www.wnd.com/2012/05/iran-discovery-will-collapse-christianity/

They won't discuss if it's historically viable or the fact that it's meant to bolster Islam. They'll fixate on the idea of "collapsing Christianity."
According to the Bible, "know" means "yes."

Call it a hunch, but I think Christianity will survive.  :-)
Let nothing trouble you,
Let nothing frighten you.
All things are passing;
God never changes.
Patience attains all that it strives for.
He who has God lacks nothing:
God alone suffices.

Not if we don't soon do something about the damn muslims.

I still call 'em Moslems, and the DUmmies can shove it up their arses if they don't like it.

Oh wait--they would like that, wouldn't they?

Yeah, I really believe this. Just like the other lost Gnostic (The book of Judis, The book of Mary) that they claim to have discovered.

I used to call them Moose-limbs....but with my 2 finger typing skills, that took to long to type.

There have always been many other 'books' excluded from The Bible, usually divided into Apocrypha and Blasphemia - The former are a collection of texts that usually date between the Old & New Testament, and the latter is text that is obviously, blasphemous.

My gut reaction is that this text is not authentic, or it is being "creatively reinterpreted" to suggest something never intended. Mohammad lived about a six hundred years after Christ, and the name itself was in use long before the Muslim's prophet appeared.

Yeah, just like the quran is a creative re-writing of the bible. So it isn't authenticated either.

Well -

This really isn't the place for this, but the truth is The Bible itself has been edited, re-edited, appended, deleted, retranslated, and rewritten scores of times. Not to say that the meaning of the words is wholly inaccurate, but the fallacy of mankind has managed to dilute and alter (both unintended as well as intended) the original texts for a myriad of reasons.

So, If one could locate 'The Original' copies of every included book in the current bible (in any version) One would determine that none of it is authentic at this time. However, that doesn't change the bottom line, and people of faith should understand that the meaning of The Bible is what matters and not the exact placement, editing, and translation of the words which has been done by man, not God.

5th or 6th century? Isn't that about the time of Mo?

Your statement is heretical in nature, the Westminster Confession states it well:

"We may be moved and induced by the testimony of the Church to an high and reverent esteem of the Holy Scripture. And the heavenliness of the matter, the efficacy of the doctrine, the majesty of the style, the consent of all the parts, the scope of the whole (which is, to give all glory to God), the full discovery it makes of the only way of man's salvation, the many other incomparable excellencies, and the entire perfection thereof, are arguments whereby it does abundantly evidence itself to be the Word of God: yet notwithstanding, our full persuasion and assurance of the infallible truth and divine authority thereof, is from the inward work of the Holy Spirit bearing witness by and with the Word in our hearts.

The Bible asserts itself as God's true word throughout itself, for example:

"And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he (Jesus) expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me." (Luke 24:27)

John 5:39, Jesus says, "Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me."

Even Satan recognized Scripture as the word of God.  Even he knows better than this.

Exactly -

The Book of Barnabas to which they are referring was written during Mohammad's lifetime, which makes it less likely to be a predictive text, and more likely it was written 'after the fact'.

Many people believe (wrongly) that Mohammad lived a thousand years after Christ. - and from that perspective, the writing of this book becomes 'interesting' - but otherwise, not so much.

I'm guessing this was addressed to me - so

I pretty much said exactly what you quoted. The words don't matter. The meaning does. If however, you are interpreting this to mean the exact words do matter, then you are opening up a gigantic can of worms.

The original texts were written in Hebrew (Old Testament) and Greek (New Testament) and both languages used words and idioms that have no translation, as well as words that have had their meaning lost over the centuries. The original texts included most of The Apocrypha, and as of today, most translations have eliminated most of those books from inclusion.

So, As I mentioned, God's true word is there, but we as humans have lost the ability to read and fully understand them. So, we do our best with what we have.

Well, maybe not so much.  Remember the Dead Sea Scrolls proved the accuracy and care of the texts at least through many centuries.  The differences between the "originals" used for translating and Dead Sea scrolls was incredibly small.  Small enough that no meaning changed, so smaller than, for example, the differences between the NIV and NASB.

I'm going to side wuth the Bun, on this.
A persons religious believes are a very personal topic.
Their thoughts, their beliefs.
I will not denegrate them for that,
Then-Chief Justice John Marshall observed, “Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.”

John Adams warned in a letter, “Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.”
