nadin finds it lovely

Oh my.

A pretty pointless campfire by nadin, but I brought it over to assure everybody nadin's still around.

Ah lovely, so need to cover something in the east county today

And quite frankly gas is expensive. So what is my first step after finding the route through google maps? YUP, public transport.

It tells me one way it is 2.50, versus the calculated 9+ to drive.

So will spend a total of five bucks both ways for MTS versus almost twenty in gas...

And then there are the environmental benefits. I started using public transportation as much as possible these days, and I am glad we have it. It is NOT as efficient as it should be, but that is another story.

Perhaps one of these days I should just do a story on how easy it is to go from the East County to the Mexican border on light rail...

But if you can, I highly encourage the use of light rail or bus when possible.

1. I'm with you, nadin.

I use light rail and train when I can. If two are traveling the cost of the gas might be worth it on longer trips. But to pay the price of gas to travel with one person in one car is foolish. And when you ride on light rail and/or train, you can read, watch people, enjoy the scenery. Leave the driving to Amtrack is a good motto.

2. Would love to, but the buses only run for 6 hours/day here.

Kinda hard to work 8 hours using them.

So I bought a bike.

3. That is something that will change as peak oil makes it's effect felt. When even Maui has a bus system now, you know it is going to improve.

4. Probably not, at least around here.

This particular city has been devastated by offshoring. We look at places like Detroit with envy.

It's not going to remain a city long enough for peak oil to improve the bus system.

Public transportation smells weird.  Too many Nadin-type people use it.

Why does nadin need to nadin maps?

I mean, San Diego's her stomping grounds; she should already know what's what.

I suspect nadin just wanted to advertise how savvy she is, using google maps.

If franksolich didn't know his way from here to any other town in Nebraska without a map, then franksolich is as unobservant as a rock.  And Nebraska's got considerably more acreage than San Diego.

I doubt very much the crazy bald dwarf drives.

Her moonbat ex-submariner has to drive her places.

She could not possibly reach the pedals, and see over the dashboard of a car, with the seat back far enough to accommodate her enormous girth.

Nutcase nadin is nearly two meters tall, but only at 60 centimeters per meter.

Oh, please do.  I strongly urge you to do a report on public transportation in El Paso near the Mexican border.

Regardless, while you're at it, keep going.

The light rail gets lighter the farther south you go. Before you know it, it's not even there.

Hmmmmm...let's see, does the expression, "Time is money" still apply?

Okay, let's take nads' claim that a trip from East County (shit, we'll even go so far as to say El Cajon) to see her dear hubby at the Subase down in Point Loma.

Now it takes about 45 mintues to get from El Cajon to Old Town.  Not horrible.  And another 25 minutes to get from there to somewhere on Rosecrans.  Again, not horrible, but how far does one have to walk?  You've already invested almost an hour and a half PLUS walking time?

How about just getting in the ****ing car and being there in less than 30 minutes?  And yeah, I know what the traffic is like getting down Rosecrans on a weekday morning, nads.  BTDT, remember?

When I had to ride the bus, I spent anywhere from one to two hours every day waiting at or walking to one bus stop from another.  Add in the cost (at least $5 a day if you go for an all-day pass -- they don't do transfers anymore) and it's easier, cheaper, and faster to own a car.

I would take light rail more but there's nowhere around here to park it.

I took the "L" a few times when I was having the car worked on or something.  It was absolutely miserable spending over an hour each way packed like sardines.  Much more pleasant to spend half an hour or less driving each way and pay monthly parking rates.

I rode the school bus and then drove it my last year of high school. Other than that, I've only been on a bus 3 or 4 times in my life. The first and most memorable was a ride down to Parris Island.....should have done an Obama and ate that damn dog instead of riding it... :lmao:

I lived less than 10 minutes from Subase in SD, even on a weekday with one little road in and out, no big deal.

Yet nads wants to turn even the simplest of commutes into a government-funded Bataan Death March.  **** that.

And that's in a city with GOOD public transportation.  Try it in a city that's spread out over the size of a New England state.
