Marijuana Sobriety Checkpoints: New California Legislation to Outlaw Driving While Stoned
http://blogs.sfweekly.com/thesnitch/2012/03/marijuana_dui_norma_torres.php

... Under a bill introduced last month by a SoCal assemblywoman, driving while stoned would result in an automatic DUI offense.

The proposed bill would tag this "offense" onto the section of the Vehicle Code that addresses drunk driving. The new section states that any level of "cannabinoids or synthetic cannabinoid compound" found in a driver's blood or urine, up to three hours after a traffic stop, would equate to a DUI, according to AB 2552, which was introduced by Assemblywoman Norma Torres (D-Pomona).

However, cannabinoids remain in the body for days or weeks after consumption, according to California NORML. If passed, Torres' bill would essentially criminalize outright operation of a motor vehicle by any marijuana user. So hopefully tokers know enough beer-drinkers skilled enough to stay under 0.08 to designated-drive them to work.

... Word of the bill's existence broke over the weekend among the marijuana community: NORML issued a press release on Saturday, and union organizers pledged to fight the measure with "everything we have," according to Dan Rush, national director of the medical cannabis and hemp division of United Food and Commercial Workers. The union is also fighting a similar bill in Colorado, Rush said.
Cry me a river. :bawl:

1. Not gonna work.
Colorado Legislature tried the same thing last year, and it failed.
Because of the same lingering problems - long-time stoners have cannabonoids on their systems for a long time.
Ever thought of not using it, DUmbass?

4. Sobreity checkpoints are the only way to catch offenders.

Because there isn't a profile for stoned drivers except perhaps strict adherence to traffic controls.
Well, ya, that's where they catch offenders. What's your point?

8. Totally Dude!

I haven't smoked in 20 years. I had a few tokes at my 20 yr class reunion and was so paranoid I drove 15 miles at 20mph, (just asking to be stopped, right there) praying to God that if I get home I'll never smoke dope again! It was hilarious! Dana ; )
Sorry, DUmbass. Wouldn't have been better not to do it to start with?
Problem solved.

One tried a little voice of reason.

11. I don't want to jump into a pot should be illegal or legal debate

but driving while high, drunk, stoned, down, up, unconscious, or on the astral plane (I'm looking at you, Professor Xavier) should be illegal.

If you can finish the sentence, "Did I eat 50 white castle burgers? Holy crap, I was so _____" with any of those terms, you are putting other people at risk.
He's right you know.

14. Where to start?

Look pal, I have been using cannabis for more than 40 years. (why you're a day laborer) In all that time I managed to never be fired from a job,(day labor doesn't require testing) never get a speeding or moving violation ticket.(can't afford a car because of drug habit) I have had exactly one 2 mph fender bender that incurred very little damage and no physical harm to people. I have never had a fist fight. I have never beat my spouse. I have never eaten 50 White Castle burgers. I am NOT uncommon or unusual. I know many, many people just like me who are regular cannabis users and so do you. Really, you do. Grow up. He is, why haven't YOU?

Goes on and on.

John Adams warned in a letter, “Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.”

Maybe libs would enjoy being stoned while being stoned.
There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.

I was told by a cop in So. Dakota that when there is an accident, if it turns out one of the drivers was high (pot or something else), they were not allowed to put that information in the news release.  Something about protected health information (since tests were done at hospitals) combined with the attorneys deciding whether to press additional charges.

Anyone know anything about that?  This fellow claimed there were many accidents in which pot, and other drugs, were very likely a factor.

When I was a truck driver, we not only had to have a DOT physical every 2 years, but we were subjected to random "pee tests" once or twice a year.

It was a very easy choice:  You wanna stay employed, you stay off the weed.  It's that simple.   :loser:

Why should drug users get a pass when people drinking alcohol and driving ,then have a wreck do not? Sorry but I would argue that any state would have good reason to also arrest pot heads as much as any drunk. Your both impaired and the only argument seems to be about how long that last.

I'm willing to further than that.  I think a persons phone records should be checked if that person causes a wreck with injuries.  If they were on their  phone at the time of the wreck, then it should be extra penalties involved.

My helo forum has a good number of replies supporting the pothead stance. The crap about what they do on their free time. Why don't they find a job that is more compatible with being high or stoned whenever they want to be ?

Haven't they all become evangelical Christians now that Pat Robertson has come out as pro-pot?

Certainly, they have abandoned Islam after the Muslim-in-chief started cracking down on their free-pot clinics.

There's one big difference between a pothead and a drunk.

One hundred percent of the time, the pothead was a criminal before he got behind the wheel.
