antique show withdrawal

It happens about the middle of January. I start to suffer from antique show/garage sale/doll show/collectibles show withdrawal. At some point on a Saturday in February, I wake up thinking I want to go garage saling. But it's snowing outside! I have to suffer for the next three months, until the middle of April when the season starts up again.

There are a few indoor antique shows during the winter in the Midwest, but they aren't as fun as the outdoor ones. And shopping online isn't nearly as entertaining.

The feeling really is a mild form of withdrawal. There is an ongoing craving, especially on the weekends.

Does anyone else experience this?

The vindictive primitive, the notorious re-seller:

1. I'm in the same boat! For about a month I enjoy sleeping in on Saturday mornings, then I get antsy. There's something about the anticipation when you get up super early to hit the yard sales first. I'm chomping at the bit right now getting my fix at the local thrift store. I don't care for antique shows much either. It's no fun if the treasures have already been discovered.

3. HUGE sale this weekend -- more than a thousand vendors

Indoor sale. I won't be going. While I enjoyed some of it the last time I went, there were so many freaking reproductions that it was kind of maddening -- maddening to see how many chiselers were out to cheat shoppers.

Next month, the same venue holds a HUGE garage sale. Hundreds of vendors. I've never been to that; it might be fun.

The fecund grasswire primitive must've been a customer of the vindictive primitive at one time or another.

Isn't it strange how these two primitives view themselves as the only pious people out there hitting the flea markets and auctions, and everyone else is a dirty, rotten, low-down cheat?

Uh huh.

I may give the appearance of being anti-flea markets and all that, but I'm not.

If it does something for one, by all means flea-market away.

My objection to primitive flea-marketers is that in General Discussion they usually bad-mouth "windfall profiteers" such as the petroleum or pharmaceutical companies, but then in the eBay forum, they boast and brag about their own windfall profits.

They apparently don't see the hypocrisy in it.
