Oh my.

The fecund grasswire primitive's been absent from the cooking and baking forum, it seems, most of this week.

She's probably off forensically reading franksolich's posts on freerepublic.

Has anyone ever heard of a recipe for grapes, with sugar, in the oven? I heard about it as a teen and always wanted to try it but never did.

1. I'm trying to be open-minded

But that doesn't appeal to me. I guess it's the same as raisins or something, but it sound kind of icky.

I've heard it for the first time today.

2. No but I make a great raw grape pie

I just pile a bunch of seedless grapes into a baked pie shell then dump on about a cup of melted grape jelly doused with a bit of liquor.

Very light and refreshing!

3. Probably gets all the sugar it needs from the jelly

Do you get much variation in this with different kinds of grapes?

5. I usually mix red, black and green seedless

The jelly glaze just makes things beautiful and shiny. I've never found it to be overly sweet. I think the little bit of Cassis or Grappa I usually add tempers the sugar a bit.

It's always a show stopper when it comes to the table. I got the recipe out of one of those food magazines years ago but now for the life of me I can't find a picture.

6. These sugared grapes were a hit in the 1970's

Grape clusters dipped in beaten egg whites, then sugar, then baked until the sugar crusted. Tasty, but I forgot all about them until you mentioned it.

Here's a link to some pics.

7. I remember that!

My stepmom called them 'frosted grapes' . I can't recall if she baked them or not. They looked like they had a coating of sparkley ice on them.

Maybe it's not the same thing...I don't know.
