While kind of interesting, those shows also trouble me. Much of the prized content appears to be the personal effects of people who passed away and whose family had no idea there was a storage unit with all the prized mementos and other crap too large to keep in their last abode. Most of the bidders are shockingly ignorant about what they get, and generally seem to have the IQ and personalities of turkey buzzards, lashing out at each other over a ripe roadkill.
Not so fast Mr. Tanker, Auctions for a home stead that cannot pay the taxes or family died off are not this different from the Storage wars.
Now we did have a problem up the street with these storage sheds. Some guy stored his family's stuff including his deceased parents things in a locker. He mailed in the monthly charge for a year. Time came he was on his feet and decided he could get his things from the shed. He mailed in his last months rent and informed the owners that this was his last month, he would empty out his shed a week early.
He arrived to find his shed empty, the managers denied ever getting his last month payment and told him the workers had thrown out all his belongings into the trash. He sued for all the good it did him, the check he sent had been cashed and the company now blamed a mix up in paper work. Little by little he began to find his property in pawn shops.
Then a few years ago a high teck storage unit caught fire and burned down. Millions of dollars of antiques gone, the storage company had no insurance and the people that stored their goods had not taken out insurance on the unites as they believed the company did have insurance.
We store at our own risk, perhaps a boat or a old car for the winter.
Sad to bid on the leftovers of another ones life, head to the South and watch an auction where people are loosing land and home. This is sad, the people that store goods in lockers and find they cannot continue to pay know they will loose their goods.
Those loosing their land and homes never expected it, -----Much worse then loosing a Storage Locker.
