How has religion hurt you?

A thread for all willing to share their stories about bad experiences with organized religions, as a member of organized religion, as an atheist or whatever, and how those experiences have affected later life.

Or instead of telling your story you can also tell why you don't want to share your story and how do you wish other people to treat your sensitivities.

A thread for victims of religions and question how can other forum members help, if in any way. Please share if you like!

How come you're so scared of something you think is so stupid?  :whatever:

I know of one religion that killed almost 3,000 people one fall day ten years ago. Yet that religion is never bashed at DUmmyland.
I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

I don't care for one in particular... they knocked down a couple of very large buildings a while back and whatever planes they're flying on seem to have a bad habit of crashing or blowing up.

Oh.  You weren't talking about that religion, were you?  Figures.

Predictable halfwits.

How has religion hurt you?...on second thought, it wasn't the religion that did it...it was all those church suppers, dinners and picnics on top of family get togethers that hurt me....I'm sitting on the massive pain right now. :-)

Religion, even the cult of mohamed, has caused far less death and misery than government.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

27. What the ****?

Are you ****ing serious, so GLBTQ people are responsible for hurt feelings when they are gay bashed by Christians following the Holy Bible? And what the **** is up with this swipe against "Radical Islam" that all other religions are exempt from? Seriously, do you have any idea what you are saying, or are you denser than degenerate matter?

I'm Roman Catholic, have been since birth, I go to Mass every week, only once can I recall a Priest mentioning homosexuality and he did it in the context  of love the sinner hate the sin, and that was it. Do these people seriously think we sit there and do nothing but talk about them? they're narcissists just like Obama. BTW my Church made over 150 care packages for Thanksgiving for people who are victims of Obama's economy, what did you do?

The only religion (belief system) that has done me personal harm is atheism.  After messing up my entire life for a few decades, I discovered true Christianity, sanity, sobriety and peace.  Jesus saves us now...and forever.

My sentiments exactly.

I'd also side with MrsSmith, the only religion that has harmed me is atheism. I've had to put up with Atheists in person and on the Internet bashing and insulting me nonstop for my faith.

It's still stunning to see so many people so passionately against something they completely don't understand.  Even after years of reading these threads, it amazes me how ignorant people are in this country where they are free to learn all the truth.

Religion, even the cult of mohamed, has caused far less death and misery than government.

JENKIN,  religion has ruled the government since time began.  Fear of the religious leaders, the Witch doctors up to Faith today is what keeps leaders in place.

Fear of the religious leaders who made demands on the Kings of Europe led to many wars, some 100 year wars.

Governments cannot survive unless the religious leaders are backing them.   How far would Hitler have gotten had the Christians revolted to protect the Jews.???

The Catholic Church had no problem when the priests and Nuns were marched off to the camps.   Still the Church feared the Godless Russians and Commusism more then anything and aided the war criminals after the war.   Vatican passports for the worse of the worse. These monsters had been of some service to keep Commusiem at bay.

Strange history,
