Thanksgiving dinner + wingnut relatives = a horrible day
I have two wingnut in-laws who will be at Thanksgiving dinner and they always want to talk politics.

There's just no way I can avoid it. I've considered faking a heart attack or stroke to escape this ordeal, but I doubt if I'd get away with it.

These are people who think Ronald Reagan is God and that Newt Gingrich is a genius. They are against everything that most sane people believe in. They are intolerable dittoheads and Fox "News" addicts. And they are people I really don't want to be on the same planet with.

If I ever spoke up, I know I'd blow up. It really could become physical.

So I'm stuck with a day that I used to love that has become a horror. I can usually avoid them most of the year, but this is one day I'm stuck with. Maybe I'll get lucky and choke to death on some cranberry sauce.

I've often asked myself why I put up with it. There's no arguing a different point of view with them, but I'd really like to tell them to shut their stupid ****ing mouths. However, that would cause irreparable damage within my family with which I'm very close.

I'm sure that some of you have the same problem and you have my sympathy.

Nonetheless, Happy Thanksgiving to all here. I hope it's a good one.

4. Get an ipod/phone
and just listen to some podcasts the whole day.

Pretty rude. Why show up to dinner at all?

Other strategies:

Then run for the door with your take-out bag.

27.  My suggestion - think of the most controversial thing you might say to them and then create a small sign with it on a piece of paper. When your asshat relative begins to rant take the paper out of your pocket and pin it to your shirt in front. Then point to it. Each time they say something absurd, point to it again. No words are needed.

Eg. - your political idea is bat-shit crazy - Tax the Rich, Feed the Poor - We're coming to take your guns after Obama is reelected - I am the 99% - etc.

Tell them they are politically ignorant and demand that they stop talking politics.

You don't have to be abused.

If they refuse... leave.

At any public or private non-political function, I have never heard a conservative starting a political conversation.  That's not to say that politics was not brought up but that it has always, in my experience, been brought up by a Liberal.

Every. Single. Time.

My best guess is that said leftwing nut has brought politics up and then been smashed with conservative logic.  I would suggest that said DUchebag not bring up politics and it's RW family will not smash their pathetic political talking points.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Didn't want this year to pass by without a thread from the anti-American primitives talking about their upcoming dread of having to defend their stupidity to their true-American conservative relatives and friends.  And who better to set the tone than the forever miserable Oscar Wilde, the large-proboscised primitive.

What a lucky spouse   :lmao:

In the late 60's, I married into an extremely liberal military family. They thought of me as an ignorant southern country bumpkin racist and that was some of the nicest things they thought of me. The other kids of the family were anti-war hippies. F-I-L retired shortly after we got married and started a buisiness. He also became a teacher and taught for several years in the public school system. By the time we divorced, almost 20 years later, I was considered the raving liberal moonbat of the family....and my positions hadn't changed a bit... :lmao:

Because I'd bet the mortgage that it's not the wing-nut in-laws who are browbeating the other guests with politics.

Politics comes up at some of my family's holiday dinners, but somehow we manage to be civil about it  :whatever:  A few months ago, my cousin's 88 year old grandmother, this little old Italian lady, told us "Obama, One Big Ass Mistake America."  It was just about the funniest thing I'd ever heard  :lmao:

Upon reflection I hope Cyranose and the DUtards all have horrible contentious Thanksgivings, and are humiliated by their 'Winger' relatives and in-laws (Who are no doubt providing all the food, the venue, and the hospitality in the first place), in the interests of mocking them all on Monday.
