I am definitely planning on buying DVDs as presents and for my own use.

We saw it Friday night, and all I can truthfully say is that while I am exceedingly happy it was finally made, I really wish it had been made better. We went for the content, NOT the execution of the film, ya know?

John Aglialoro held the film rights from Leonard Peikoff for 18 years, and was unable for a host of reasons I won't go into here to get it made by a major studio, and literally had to start shooting within hours of losing them. Hence, for a little over $10 million of his own money, we end up with what we have now, and while I am in no way stating that the final product should not have been made, I really do wish that he had a bigger budget to work with.

This is especially worrisome to me, given that Aglialoro has already stated that future installments of the film may not be made if this first chapter fails.

This is particularly scary, given the numbers: The film cost $10 million to make, so if it makes $100 million worldwide (which is exceedingly hopeful, albeit less-than-likely), Aglialoro has to give half of that to the distributors, leaving him with a helluva lot less than he's already said he would need to gross in order to even think of starting production on Part II.

And this is why, despite my love of All Things Rand, I really wish Aglialoro had either negotiated new terms with Peikoff, or simply let the project lapse altogether, and focus his passion, time and money toward the advancement of Open Objectivism and the free-markets.

In my humble opinion, if we weren't prepared to bring our biggest gun to the gunfight, we really shouldn't have brought a ****ing Ginsu knife.

I'm really sorry, but after two days of consternation over this film, that's how I feel.

I have yet to see it, but from what I'm hearing now, it should be done.  And yeah, I'm with you--do it RIGHT, or don't do it at all.  Sadly, too many movies in Hollywood ignore both rules.  Name me a major studio which would have put $100-120 million on the line for a movie esposing a political philosophy most of them despise.  Talk about your self-fulfilling prophecies.

I would have gone to see it but it's not playing anywhere near here.   :censored:  (and I DON'T usually go to movies at the theater)

It's playing in Frisco.

They're supposed to be expanding it to more theaters soon.

Frisco is at least an hour away from here, maybe more.

Officially in at #9, but only on 300 screens.

And of those rating it, seems to be doing VERY well.

I went yesterday. Very small crowd for the 3:05 PM show at Marcus Point in Madison WI but very enthusiastic.

Here is Freedom Works trailer:

While I defer to Hollywood Neocon's knowledge and experience of how movies are made, I am so glad to have this movie now. I went to the tea party on Saturday afternoon, surrounded by insane primitives banging on mommy's pots and pans while flipping the bird at 14-year-old girls and Sarah Palin. And then sitting in the movie theater on Sunday it was like, "Oh, I get it! Ayn Rand is someone who saw the insanity of the world and gave us a glimpse of what sanity looks like."

I really hope the other two parts get made, but this movie was great. If it can be shown in Madison WI, it can be shown anywhere.
Demand it!

Just saw it tonight. Loved it. Might be a bit confusing to those who dont have an overview of the whole story. But then again ... ?

Anxiously awaiting the other 2 parts now.
