Great news. I hope Cain and Bachmann pull wayyyy ahead of the rest of the crowd.

The establishment repukes are probably secretly plotting with their friends across the aisle about how to derail any such thing from happening. Starting with this nonsense, this talk about Christie getting all these rich liberal republican donors backing him.

A distant second, I believe.   :cheersmate:

Very distant.

Quote
Cain finished with 37 percent of the vote, while Perry trailed with 15 percent. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney followed with 14 percent while former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum drew 11 percent. U.S. Rep. Ron Paul finished with 10.5 percent, while former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman finished with 2 percent.

U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, who won the Iowa straw poll in August, finished with just 1 percent of the vote.

Darned racist teabaggers in Florida wouldn't vote for the white people.  :whistling:

From the Washington Examiner earlier.
Quote
What seems to be happening is this: A lot of delegates came to Orlando planning to vote for Rick Perry. But Perry’s poor performance at Thursday night’s Fox News-Google debate gave them pause and re-opened the question of whom they will support. And many of the conservatives who were attracted to Perry will, when asked for a second choice, naturally gravitate to Cain, who, it just happens, had a particularly good debate on Thursday. So with Perry not commanding the loyalty he did just 48 hours ago, Cain appears to be picking up support…

Could Cain actually win? It seems unlikely, but it’s an outside possibility. Cain’s fortunes depend on whether the delegates here decide to vote strategically — to support the candidate they consider the most likely to win the Republican nomination and go on to general-election victory — or to vote their principles and let practical matters work themselves out later. If the delegates go the latter route, a lot will choose Herman Cain.

And from Hot Air
Quote
Update: Not only did Cain pull it off, it wasn’t close. The numbers: Cain 37%, Perry 15%, Romney 14%. A total embarrassment for Perry, and it actually could have been worse. Here’s what Florida state representative Matt Gaetz tweeted before the vote:

Quote
Romney campaign is having their #Presidency5 delegates vote for Cain to skew results. #dirtytricks

If that’s true, and no one knows if it is, then Romney’s supporters might have pushed Mitt to second and Perry all the way down to third simply by sticking with their guy.

Or that could be disinformation being spread in anticipation of a poor showing by Romney.

I suspect that you're right. Perry wasn't good in the debate. After the debate, the group of likely Republican voters seemed to remarkably change their support from Perry. I think Florida's straw vote is reflects who the voters here think actually did the best.

If he wins the nomination, I will gladly support him. I think he's the best of the candidates.

Nor was Perry.  Sorry, but when I see eight candidates piling on Perry, you know what I see?  Eight candidates who know he's the man to beat.  Yes, his performance last week sucked, but he'll learn from that.  Guys like Paul, Huntsman, etc., can't and won't.  Romney has an albatross entitled "Romneycare" around his neck, and fair or not, he is stuck with it.

Perry's my favorite, too, with Cain second.  And although I like Perry, I do have to point out that he was a male cheerleader at Texas A&M (which does not have female cheerleaders).

I just don't trust Perry. It's not explainable, but I don't trust him. His record in Texas is not that sterling.

I do like Cain, but I don't know if he can win against obastard. Lessee - one true black man running against a mulatto...That might be real interesting; the left couldn't play their race card, which only works with certain people anyway.

I'd vote for Romney ONLY because he'd be running against obastard.

IMO Perry really stepped on his own crank with that whole tuition assistance for illegal aliens thing.

Romney’s not actively competing (although he’ll be on the ballot) whereas Perry’s spent a bunch of money to make a splash in a crucial primary state.

What was clear, however, was how much money and effort Perry's team has put into the straw poll.

On every table was a glossy, two-sided direct mail piece encouraging people to vote in the straw poll, and pitching Perry as "America's jobs governor" and as having "conservative roots grounded in heartland soil."

OMG, I think the misfits' heads would collectively explode the day Cain announced she was his running mate.

Herman Cain has moved into a tie with Mitt Romney atop the field of Republican presidential candidates, according to a new CBS News poll.

This is very interesting.

If this becomes the norm and Cain is seen as the leader, then the racist attacks will start in earnest from the left.

Most thinking Americans (DUmmies excluded by "thinking" modifier) don't like seeing people labeled as "Uncle Tom", so that kind of attack would be counterproductive

Most sensible people don't like seeing women denigrated either, but that didn't stop the left from attacking Palin, nor did it stop the Obamabots from attacking Hillary.  The left is stooooopid and will attack Cain.
