Iranian Navy Sending Ships Near U.S. Waters

The Iranian navy plans to move naval vessels out of the Persian Gulf and into the Atlantic Ocean, "near maritime borders of the United States," the Tehran Times reported Tuesday.

According to the English-language paper based in Tehran, the announcement came from a top Iranian naval officer on Tuesday.

“As the global arrogance (forces of imperialism) have a (military) presence near our sea borders, we also plan to have a strong presence near the U.S. sea borders with the help of the soldiers who are loyal to the vali-e faqih (supreme jurisprudent),” said Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, as quoted and paraphrased by the Tehran Times.

"We've been pushing freedom of the seas for years and the Iranian navy can go wherever it wants," said Pentagon Spokesman Capt. John Kirby.

One senior official echoed Capt. Kirby in saying that Iran has the pleasure of moving wherever it desires in international waters. But with known intent to approach U.S. maritime borders, he added, "they might have some company."

Only until the jug-eared SCOAMF in Chief gets wind of it.  Then there will be Admirals called on the carpet for "racial profiling" and discriminating against peaceful muzzies.  :whatever:

What a joke. Iran has what could rightly be called an impressive navy but that is strictly in a local coastal defense sense. They can "rule the waves" withing view of their own beaches when up against such adversaries as Somali pirates or Iraqi patrol craft or gunboats during the Iran/Iraq war but that's about it. It's a bathtub navy, not a blue water navy by any stretch.

The notion that Iran could "project power" abroad on  the high seas is laughable. Sure, they could post a frigate off of Baltimore or New York but what's the point? They don't have the support craft to maintain a flotilla on station for any length of time anyway so it would amount to little more than a weekend sightseeing trip for them.

What it amounts to is they have the capability to hang a pinata by our front porch and hope we come out and whack it so they can play the wounded victim on the PR stage. That's about it.

Offensive capabilities?  :lmao: If they were insane enough to try they would just be going cape buffalo hunting with a BB gun.

Iran Says Its New Cruise Missile Can 'Sink Giant Warships'

Published September 28, 2011 | FoxNews.com

TEHRAN, Iran –  Iran has started the large-scale production of a domestically-developed cruise missile that could reportedly strike Israel and potentially counter U.S. naval presence in the Persian Gulf.

The missiles are called “Ghader” or “Capable” in Farsi, and have a 124-mile range that can "sink giant warships," according to Gen. Ahmad Vahidi, the Iranian defense minister.

The exact number of missiles is unclear, but they were reportedly delivered to the Revolutionary Guards’ naval division.

Iran’s growing arsenal includes short- and medium-range ballistic missiles that are capable of hitting targets in the region, such as Israel and U.S. military bases in the Gulf.

Perhaps, we now know what their business in the Atlantic is?

I guess we'll get blamed for it if one of their ships happens to run over a stump out there in the Atlantic and sink.   ::) :-)

Just what we need, more junk rustling off the coast of New Jersey after we sink thier little fleet.  The Navy won't even break a sweat over blowing holes in their boats.

A bunch of fast patrol boats and 50-year old corvettes that top out at 1500 tons?  Yeah, color me less than impressed.  And while speculation of port calls has been going around, Venezuela and Cuba would of course be high on that list.

It takes a lot of logistics to have a forward base even with a friendly government.

But technically capable?  Meh.  I say send a picture from the scope of a Virginia class boat showing the nametags of a few of their guys humping the goats out on the fantail, and that oughta shut their asses up right fast.

I'd love to see  the looks on their faces after that.

....and you guys thought the closing of Vieques Island was going to be a crushing blow to preparedness. Now it seems you have a replacement. Gotta love having a target-rich environment for training purposes.  :-)

If they made it a pay per view the ratings would be through the roof.

Hey I'm a tightwad, I'm going to watch it for free. You know ABC NBC & CBS will have the best worst of it on for free. All I'll have to do is hit the "MUTE" button so I don't have to listen to the  :bawl: of the reporter. :-)

Oceania Base in Norfork had a Iranian Ship in port, 1984 , the call to Prayer could be heard all over the base.[22]
