Gold Metal Flake (1000+ posts) Tue Sep-20-11 11:51 AMOriginal message Please identify unreccers. This has been requested before but now I am requesting it and that makes it different somehow.I read this thread this morning. I thought that knowing that SS debit cards may be subject to hidden fees when used just might be the sort of info important to those who may be using or may be about to use them. So I hit the rec link. No one had yet replied to the thread but, to my surprise someone had unrecced it. Who the hell would unrec a useful thread like that? I want to know. I think I should be able to see who is using the rec/unrec funtion. If it has an effect on the forum, and it does, then I think we all should be able to see who is rating threads. You can see who is rating threads on Kos and (straw man warning) the world has not tilted off it's axis. If there are misanthropes downrating threads and uprating threads to attempt some sort of control of the dominant dialogue. Yes, I am aware that you claim that there is some sort of oversight, but really, does that happen without some sort of prompt? Just let the members do it. If some user ID is downrating threads frequently without being a contributor it can be alerted by the users. Use of the rec feature is suspect by many. It is thought to be used by trolls. In the example I provided, I an now convinced that it is. Time to provide some sunshine into this feature or remove it.
EarlG ADMIN (1000+ posts) Tue Sep-20-11 01:46 PMResponse to Original message 1. You raise some good points but the issue is moot The unrec function is going away on DU3, and the recommend function is changing in a way that should make it much more useful and much less contentious. In the meantime, I'm afraid you'll have to put up with the system as it is.
They have been talking about DU3 for quite some time. What is the holdup on the roll out?
There's a reason why patriotism is considered a conservative value. Watch a Tea Party rally and you'll see people proudly raising the American flag and showing pride in U.S. heroes such as Thomas Jefferson. Watch an OWS rally and you'll see people burning the American flag while showing pride in communist heroes such as Che Guevera. --Bob, from some news site
