Oh my.

Ms. Ed, the unappellated eohippus, the High Priestess of Moloch to the primitives, the non-monickered equine, the quality-control-checker of male parts, &c., &c., &c.:

I purchased my dream home! An old farmhouse in the country.

However, it was attached to family land and family issues, so, after a lengthy legal pursuit between us, the owners, and their extended family who refused the breakup of the property without hefty concessions from their family members...we are back to square one.

However, our house is paid for and we have decided that we will just stay here and do repairs.

1. not sure what this means

Do you get the house but little land around it? Or are you in your "previous" home? You had an agreement with "the owners" but somehow others had a legal claim?

There are likely other places for sale without those problems.

2. I had posted previously about my dream house purchase.

The owners had this house moved onto property that was family owned several years ago.

We were buying the house with 10 acres.

The owners own 200 acres out of a large family inheritance of several thousand acres.
Nobody else lives anywhere in the vicinity of the property.

So...the only "deal" the extended family would go with to the owners to allow us to purchase within their homestead was for the owners to forfeit their right to 180 of the remaining 190 acres--thus leaving them 10 acres of the homestead.

We were already under contract when these things transpired...immediate family was okay with the sale, the problem came from the extended family.

At the end of the day, we didn't feel this was a fault of the owners, but also we didn't want to be involved in a protracted legal battle either.

We have been negotiating this crap for months.

We love the house but also don't want to move it off of the property and at the end of the day, that became the ONLY possibility.

It was pretty complicated and the whole ordeal has made me very cranky over the last few months.lol.

We are staying in our previous home. It's a whole heckuva lot easier.

As usual, there's lies here.  I dunno what they are, but lies always out.

You can buy a house somewhere when there is no clear deed on the property?

My guess is the couldn't get a loan. A CNA only makes minimum wage.

Her daughter couldn't finance a car at one of those pay by the week, 30% interest clip joints; putting 40% down. She had to learn her money management skills from somebody.
Come to think of it, unions do create jobs. Companies have to hire two workers to do the work of one.

Okay, okay, I found one of the lies.

There's a companion thread to this, by Ms. Ed, that was posted after this one.

In this one, she talks about

Quote
We love the house but also don't want to move it off of the property and at the end of the day, that became the ONLY possibility.

But in the other thread, she says it has concrete floors, and she wants to cover them up.

Now, people move houses all the time, from one piece of property to another.

But I don't think that concrete floor's going with the house, when the house is moved.

I said there's a lie here; I'm not sure this is it, but it's getting closer to the lie if it isn't.

Damn.

Golly!

I'm still a little confused. Did the eohippus nicht namen buy the house or not?

The title of the OP said she did, but the last two lines of her response #2 sayd she didn't.

I'm hoping I'm the more confused between her and I, because someone that confused and stoopid shouldn't be left running around loose.

Believe it or not they can move a house with a concrete floor.

Oh.

Thanks for the illumination, sir; I didn't know that.

Oh.

Thanks for the illumination, sir; I didn't know that.

I didn't either until a few years back. I was doing some work in a subdivision and saw a nice new brick home with mounds of dirt around it. Curiosity got the better of me so I stopped to see what was going on. There was a certain setback from a set of power lines that the builder had ignored. The city wouldn't issue a variance so it was decided to move the home.

From what I saw and from talking to some of the workers they have a machine that actually digs a trench beneath the foundation. They then slide a steel I-beam under the foundation and jack it to support the home. They continue digging trenches and placing I-beams and jacks until the entire home and foundation is on the beams instead of the ground.

This "house" has tires. The concrete is the pad it's parked on.
It's her "dream" because it's not as dusty as where she is now.
She's trading single-wides.

Original message

Just got the news. Will be making a move.
Well, actually just a small one...staying in the same county BUT buying a 60-year old farmhouse in the country.

The nice thing is that the house has new plumbing, new electrical, new doors and new windows. It has been re-insulated and structurally in excellent shape. It has central air and heat, but also has radiant heaters/window units to offset those. Cosmetically? Not so much.

I LOVE the house! It has hardwood floors in good structural condition, but need to be stained and sealed. The rooms are huge. There is plenty of room for the entire family--including grandkids.

There is a existing garden, clothesline, rain barrels, and utilizes co-ops for water and electricity.

But here is the nice part.
I will cut school driving by 60 miles a day by being able to utilize the school bus.
I will cut work driving by 60 miles a day because it is closer to work.
Utilities will be much cheaper.
The house, although not as pretty, is much more efficient than my current house.
I have a place to raise a calf and a pig to put in the freezer. We will also get some chickens.
I will use the existing garden, BUT plan on using my boxes too.
BUT the nicest part is that my house payment will be cut in half.

I haven't yet been able to figure out how much savings this will be each month--but I know just the gas will be an extra $80/week.

Wish me luck and I will be posting pictures of the renovation in the DIY forum.

16. Very good advice
Luckily--they already sanded them down and all I have to do is the staining and sealing.

I was very fortunate stumbling upon this house. A friend of mine owns it and they were in the process of re-doing it. BUT, they got sick of it. I suggested they move out of it for a couple of months and hire someone to come in and finish--would be cheaper than buying a new home--but they weren't just sick of the work, they were sick of the house. They had the hard part done.

They bought a NEW home.

I am sure they will regret this decision, but it was a fortunate mistake for me.

I was sure there was a lie in her story somewhere.

There had to be; after all, it's Ms. Ed.

And probably there's other lies too.
