The plane had not made it to the runway.“The pilot noticed something wrong with the engines and decided to evacuate the plane,†said Kim Gibbs, a spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority. “The emergency chutes were deployed. Then the passengers boarded shuttles and returned to the terminal.â€A report from Reuters quoted airports spokeswoman Tara Hamilton as saying there were reports of three injuries, with one person transported to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and the others refusing treatment.
SoapBox (1000+ posts) Wed Sep-14-11 03:14 PMResponse to Original message 2. Ok...so I would have questions... "An" engine problem? Which engine? And it could not be shut down? Extinguishers used? Yes, they were heavy fuel but...?Pictures on the news just now, showed the right side of the aircraft, with ONLY the over wing exits open and slide...The A/C Right doors 1, 2, and 3 were not open (closed)...there was one slide on the ground under the wing tip (looked to be a door slide), so I don't know if that one had been detached and the door it came from closed.SO...'splain please. Another "hair trigger" incident? The reason I question all of this is...that it is "generally" more dangerous to evacuate an aircraft (various injuries when leaving the plane and using the slides) than it is to simply shut everything down and be towed to an area where stairs could be used. Yup, people get hurt in evacuations.Inquiring minds!

SoapBox (1000+ posts) Wed Sep-14-11 03:54 PMResponse to Reply #5 6. Could be... In fact, now that you mention it...the B757 is horrible about fume intake, particularly in the back half of the a/c.Of course, by time the NTSB issues it's findings, well, how much time will have passed? *snarkage about how long it takes*

Is Soap Box nadinbryszhnskzy's sock puppet? It sounds just like her.
Exactly how would it benefit us to have her Wellstoned when the teleprompter in chief would just give us a younger version of the same thing? The Wellstoning will commence after the 2012 elections DUmmy.
