ALCU sues Florida for drug testing welfare recipients

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is taking Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R) to court, forcing him to defend his highly controversial law requiring all welfare recipients to be screened for drugs.

The ACLU Tuesday sued the state of Florida on behalf of 35-year-old U.S. Navy veteran Luis Lebron, a single parent who lost his job in 2008 after his employer downsized.

Lebron says he does not take illegal drugs but contacted the ACLU because "it really hit hard when I had to go down there and go through this."

ALCU?!?!?   :rotf:
"They cannot win. We outnumber them in this country, and we have the guns… I’m not kidding. They talk a mean game, but they will not cross that line because they know what they’re dealing with."

Drug test ACLU lawyers before they're allowed to try a case in court.... :-)

“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

To be honest, I thought the 0bama regime's DOJ would beat the ACLU to the punch on this one.

When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Don't most state workers have to go through drug screening?  If the case workers have to go through it, why should their clients?  I don't see where the claim for it to be unconstitutional comes from.

Whatever happened to if you want the king's money you do the king's bidding?

Oops...DUmmies have confused welfare recipients with kings.  I guess that's undestandable in the case of the true leeches that sit around and do nothing while every one elase works their ass off and gets paid for it.

I want this to be the norm across the country so badly!  No way should public assistance be given to active users.

State workers here in FL did not have to go through drug testing, but when they started testing moochers, I mean welfare recipients, they also started testing state workers.

Most of those state workers are also union members I assume.

I would guess some are, I know a few of them (one is my wife) and none of them are union members.

I can tell you that on the federal level, all prospective employees are put through the wringer. I was tested for better that twenty drugs, both illegal as well as commonly abused prescriptions. They also performed a complete background check, right down to unpaid parking tickets. Also, my fingerprints as well as other biometrics are now in every major database in the country, even though I have no criminal record.

Anyway - If you want some of the republic's money, then the republic has the right to know exactly what they are paying for. If you disagree with the terms, then don't apply for a federal job. The same should be true for those on a public assistance program. The taxpayers have an interest in knowing that their money isn't being invested into illegal activities. If you have a problem with this, then don't apply for welfare.

Damn skippy.  I work for the government in a sensitive area and have been randomly drug tested twice this year already.  No biggie.  After nearly three decades, I'm used to it.

We are a right to work state, so unions can not make us join.
