Woman’s yard sale to pay medical bills gets shut down
   
A woman fighting a terminal form of bone cancer is trying to raise money to help pay bills with a few weekend garage sales, but the city of Salem says she’s breaking the law and is shutting her down.

Jan Cline had no idea, but the city of Salem has a clear law that states a person can only have three yard sales a year.

Cline has been selling her stuff in the backyard for a few weekends and said she thought she’d be fine by keeping the sale out of everyone’s way.

“It’s a struggle,” Cline says. “It’s a struggle for me because I’m very independent, used to taking care of myself.”

I doubt it, I would imagine that tea party people would appreciate what she is doing, she's trying to raise money instead of sitting there with open hands demanding that taxpayers fill them.

couldn't just 'forget' to go around a visit her for a couple of weeks or so?? Garage sales are such high priority? And I agree, the neighbors should have stepped up and allowed her to use their lawns for a few more weeks. What happened to american revolutionary spirit?

I love how when the govt gets intrusive like this, the DUmmies bitch and whine, yet they support the govt controlling everything.

Around here you need a permit to hold a yard sale and you are limited to a certain number per year. They actually have city employees driving around all weekend looking for illegal yard sales.

So the fault belongs to the person who turned this woman in and not the LIBERALS' obsession with micromanaging everyone's life to the point they want to tell you how many days a year one could have a garage sale. This is from the same group of people who cheered some little kids lemonade stands being shut down around the country.

Their claim was they should have filed the necessary paperwork and obtained permits because people could get E. coli from the lemonade and wouldn't be able to sue.

Now us Yankee thieves and pirates, have a way to get around these stupid town laws,  We just hold a one day yard sale and the next door neighbor takes the unsold items from the first yard sale and holds their own.

Next week the first person to hold a yard sale gets a permit and all the things from the first and second yard sale are placed for sale. You see here both neighbors can go out and scrounge for things at other yard sales and come back and sell then at one or the others yard sale.

Yankees follow the law until they find a hole in the law, is this bad, anyone taken advantage of a IRS deduction you did not know about???? Any one go out of state to buy a car in a non tax state ????

3 miles away from home are stores and Supermarkets ----non tax-----Do you drive 10 miles to buy the same with a tax on it???
