Life can suck some days, it did for me today

Edited on Thu Aug-18-11 08:26 PM by Omaha Steve

I met with my bosses today. Best managers on the planet. Most of you know I had shoulder surgery in January. I also have a pinched nerve in my neck causing problems. I've been in therapy for several months. I start work hardness therapy tomorrow. I pretty much HAVE to get back to being able to lift 90 pounds and use 100 pounds of force. Most of the jobs I could demote to also have heavy physical requirements. The next couple months will tell. The case nurse assured me they will not rush this and give me plenty of time to try to get to where I need to be. If not, I'm looking at a disability.

I love my job and co-workers. I want to stay.

Put your boxers on and be a man Steve.

My husband had numerous surgeries and he's just fine.

You're milking the rehab hoping for that union payday huh ?  Admit it.  You are.

The term "man up" applies here.  Unortunately, OS wants to ride the disability gravy train.

DUmmie Steve is probably sitting at home right now, trying to figure out which of these paths offers up the least amount of resistance:

1.Disability
2.??????
3.Profit!

1.Elected office
2.??????
3.Profit!

I can translate DUmmy OmahaSteve's statement from DUmp democratese into English:

"I'd cut off my right arm if it would help in scamming my way onto the disability gravy train."

A disability pension is every DUmmy's dream. It's just like hitting the lotto.

We're compiling a dossier on OS. We will send it to his opponent once his entry is solidified.
Come to think of it, unions do create jobs. Companies have to hire two workers to do the work of one.

My fellow Nebraskan is such a ****ing wimp.

On January 20, 1993, I lost my right elbow; shattered it to pieces.

January 20, 1993 was a bad day in more ways than just one.

The expectation was that the arm would be permanently "locked" into a right angle, with only a little bit of movement up and down.

I was being sent to a physical therapy place three times a week.  It was clear over on the other side of town (Lincoln), it took me away from work, and all they seemed to do was massage it in warm water, which to me didn't look as if it was going to do much.

I complained to the physician; this was a nuisance, a waste of time, and worthless.

With his permission, I started carrying an empty briefcase around.  And then after the pain of doing that got bearable, I put half a brick into the briefcase and carried that around.  And then a full brick.  And then two bricks.  And then three bricks.

I didn't use pain-killers; I used pain as a guide.

By September 1993, I could bend the right arm any damned way I wanted to bend it.

My fellow Nebraskan is such a ****ing wimp.

What?  I shattered my right elbow, too!  I have been considering just carrying a weight around the house to get it to go back to normal.  I'm afraid after all these months, I've gotten used to it just being deformed but would love to get it back to being normal.

And, I never once considered trying to get disability even though the doctor said I should apply.

Sorry to veer off-topic here.

It's okay to veer off topic madam (although our esteemed colleague vesta isn't supposed to know this); the DUmpster's meant to make people comfortable and at ease, utterly mellow.

But you weren't that much off topic anyway, illuminating my fellow Nebraskan that if a fragile Southern Belle from Texas can deal with an injury, perhaps Omaha Steve should man up and deal with his, rather than just lazily sitting around expecting "other people" and drugs to take care of it for him.

What a wimpish slob.

The huge difference is that with DUmbass Steve, it has nothing to do with his physical condition, and everything to do with the dream of a lifetime gravy train, dancing just beyond his reach, but edging closer and closer. For nearly every democrat, and absolutely every single union drone, the word "disability" is every bit as holy as "salvation" or "resurrection".

Sooner or later, a monstrous slob like DUmmy Steve is almost certain to experience a massive vascular or cardiac event. Should he survive, the gravy train will transition from scam to ordeal. That isn't likely to take long, so his scam profits will probably be small.

So Obama Steve is concerned that his job at the water treatment plant, which consists of scooping condoms from the waste water before they clog up the filters, is in jeopardy because he can't handle 90 lbs at a time. Maybe the union can get an authorization for a smaller net in order to save your job. File a grievance Obama Steve, it's called light duty.

Quote
First, a single laborer armed with a swimming pool skimmer was posted at the chlorine tanks at Jones Island to nab condoms that survived earlier phases of screening at the plant. To date, the effort has yielded 14,020 stubborn condoms scooped from the final sewage treatment soup over 551 days. Average daily yield: 25.4 condoms, according to the district.
$18.09 a condom

The district couldn't provide full costs of the effort. But the final 424 days of condom scooping cost $184,400 for the 10,196condoms collected during that period, which ended Feb. 6. That comes to a per-condom collection cost of $18.09.

The work was done weekdays by union laborers under a subcontract with MMSD's private operator, United Water Services. Those workers were paid $23.19 an hour. However, United Water charged MMSD $52.15 an hour, a figure that included costs of fringe benefits and a 15% markup for profit and administrative fees.

My Old Man was a Chicago Republican until the day he died.

Then he became a democrat.

Good one--I overlooked that part.  And to make matters worse, I absolutely DESPISE that song.  Think hearing it EVERY SINGLE DAY after I got out of boot at Great Mistakes, circa 1984.

I used to hate it a lot around the turn of the century.  Then I saw what drugs had done to the guy who sings it (turn him into a blithering idiot), and I don't mind the song.

You did a damned good job on the rewrite.

He has been out of work since January?   how many freakshow conventions has he attended during this time?

He is going to run for public office, yet is "looking at a disability."   In his warped entitlement-laden brain, he doesn't see anything wrong with that does he?
