Oregon Tea Partiers invade quiet MoveOn picnic, break it up with threats -- and boast about it
   
Probably the most disturbing aspect of the multifarious effects of Fox News' right-wing propaganda machine and its Tea Party offspring is the way it has utterly taken over the lives of so many senior citizens, who lap up every word as the gospel truth and have become increasingly radicalized by talking heads like Glenn Beck.

Even as they project their own intentions onto the likes of the unions, the Fox acolytes and the Tea Partiers have effectively become a brownshirt corps of mean-spirited, vicious thugs. It's deeply disturbing to watch people in our parents' generation viciously attacking liberals with increasing venom and violence.

The latest example took place last weekend in the quiet little retirement town of Roseburg, Oregon. It's a pretty little burg on the I-5 corridor in western Oregon that is mostly populated with senior citizens of various stripes. Via Carla at Blue Oregon, we happened upon this story in the local paper:

A small political gathering of about 18 liberal thinkers at River Forks Park Sunday afternoon erupted in conflict when about 35 members of the conservative tea party intruded upon the meeting, waving flags and holding signs accusing the rival group of being communists, Marxists and socialists.

I hate these people. They invaded most of our health care reform rallies 2 years ago, walked into our group with guns on their hips and stuck video cameras in our faces. They tried to drown out our speakers with a bullhorn.

Our Dem congressman was forced to cancel his town halls after receiving death threats. The wingnuts then accused him of refusing to meet with his constituents.

They spit on Congressman Cleaver in DC. One of the best most honorable men I have ever known - and they spit on him and LIED about it, even though there was video evidence of the spitting.

When MoveOn sent out an email encouraging us to attend a town hall our congressman was having, the local GOP sent out an email calling MoveOn members "thugs" who wanted to disrupt the town hall. At the town hall, a Democrat told the congressman she was a Christian. The GOP supporters put up a video of the town hall and accused this woman of dominating the town hall (for asking ONE question) and called her crazy - because we all know Democrats can't be Christians?

Creepy is putting it mildly

Yes, they need to show those damn teabaggers, because after all I remember all of their sides 'peaceful' protests and shenanigans. After all, throwing things at Ann Coulter, laying in the streets and disturbing traffic at any number of economic forums, and making spectacles of themselves during meetings(ie code pink) was all just polite discourse. I remember the 'loving' and 'peaceful' union workers gathering in Wisconsin too. The date was April 14th and the next day was Tax Day, the annual TEA (Taxed Enough Already) Party in Pioneer Courthouse Square. Little did the TEA Party realize the level of hateful rhetoric that would be exhibited by the Left in all it's glory.......Democrat PCP's, Socialists from PSU, progressives, union supporters, and the most vile foul mouthed leftists you can imagine.

While TEA Partiers expected to be disturbed by the occasional “infiltrator” nothing prepared them for the Left’s hatred: homophobia, racism, anti-Americanism, violence, and an intentional attempt to illegally drown out our first Amendment rights to free speech with illegal airhorns. While largely ignored by local media (with the exception of Talk radio) this behavior was seen nationally on Fox, providing a very embarrassing look at the naked underbelly of the Left's Progressive movement in Portland Oregon. Carla trolls the Conservative sites to look for something to slant. The exact definition of "trolling". We baited her and set her up a while back and she actually fell for it, writing an entire article based off a sceen shot on how stupid the Tea party was. Let's not play dumb here, and pretend Carla doesn't have an extreme bias. This article was titled to smear the Tea Party, although this was AFP, and she got it from an AFP website. We are not AFP. Is there crossover....yes, just as there is with the MUCH larger disgusting display by the left in April 15th, which included known Democrat PCP's. Does that mean the Democrat Party condones this? should I write the article on the Progressive "AKA Democrat" racist, homophobic, anti-american violent hate filled attack on the Tea Party?

Carla, incites the kind of behavior I witnessed downtown toward the Tea Party. She's doing it with this article. It's dangerous, and it's disingenuous to deny that.

It is something I don't mention ever on principle but yesterday showed me why I don't mention it, and I want to explain it to you.

My kids are adopted. My kids are a different color than me. After years and years of living with these two gems, I can honestly say, I do not see their color. There has been more than one time, after spending an entire day interacting with them, I look in the mirror at night to brush my teeth and am startled at how pathetically pale I am. The message and creed we live by in our family......it doesn't matter the color of a man's skin, only the depth of his character. It doesn't matter.......

Those people that did that to you aren't affiliated with me in any way that I'm aware of. If they were, I would certainly have no problem calling them out publicly.

I have taken my children to public political rallies before where there was some expectation of opposition. We talked in advance about what might take place, and we had discussions before and after about the experience. It's part of living in an open society: the good, the bad, and the ugly.

All this said, that situation has virtually nothing to do with what happened in Roseburg. Those folks were having a quiet meeting in a public park. It wasn't a rally. It was just a get-together. They then moved to a private residence, only to be continually hounded and harassed.
