If religion went poof overnight and all the sudden no one believed in it,
   
would the world be a better place? I have to argue no on this. The problem is humans not a specific manifestation of human imagination.

If the DUmmies went poof overnight how would i make fun you every morning?  

If she says no to her question why ask it in the first place?

Part of the problem, especially with Christians, is that many believe that they can do whatever they want and as long as they repent everything is ok. They never suffer any true consequences in the God they worship.

I remember an older Simpsons episode where they ask Bart what religion he would choose if forced to choose one. He answers I would be a Catholic. Why? Because I can do whatever I want my whole life as long as I apologize for it just before I die.

I  assume that, even though Christianity is not mentioned by name, cali is making a backhanded slam at Christianity. I like how she tried to put herself above it all. All in all it really is a very subtle slam which is unusual for a place like DU and for a poster like cali. It does have a nice touch of condescension. Like she's saying that her and her ilk (like her fellow DUers) are more grounded in fact and reality than those crazy religious people that believe in their imagined religions.

She could be right. DUers may indeed be more grounded in reality. I don't know. Wait a minute…what is that smell?

Over at our old home Ralph Wiggim did a whole list of these DUmmies as proof of the "reality-based community. One of the funniest things I ever read. Think I laughed until tears were rolling down my cheeks. I think that might be where I first learned about UGP and the whole pineapple episode.

I remember that list, but I wasn't sure who did it. I thought it might have been Sammy the Squidboy. Back then, reading about all of their superpowers is what really sparked my interest in DU. I'm reminded of an old episode of NewsRadio that guest starred James Caan. He was amazed at Matthew (Andy Dick's character). I felt much the same way reading that list. Too bad we don't still have it.

Most people who don't like religion ignore it and live their lives. DUmmies want religion gone. They would then be able to worship govt without competition. It a truth I've discovered over the years: all hard core socialists and communists loath and hate people of faith. especially Christians and Jews.

Its sad to say, but even if religion went "poof" tomorrow...most of the godless DUmmies would still go to Hell.

Leave it to the DUmmies to base what they know about religion off of what they saw on 'The Simpsons.'
I haven't watched a new episode of the show in at least a year, that show jumped the shark years ago. Matt Groening and the other writers for the show fell victim to two fatal flaws for a comedy show's writers:1) Taking themselves and their show too seriously, and 2) Becoming more concerned with making episodes that are intended to shove their political beliefs down viewers' throats as much as possible than with making episodes that are intended to make viewers laugh as much as possible. The new revival episodes/ movies of 'Futurama' suffer from the same problem, hence why I don't make much of an effort to watch it, either. What makes the show especially hypocritical is that, while they LOVE blatantly insulting Christianity and portraying all Christians as stereotypical morons, prudes, and bigots every chance they can get (i.e. Ned Flanders), there was an episode a couple years back that portrayed Homer as being really wrong for judging and stereotyping a Muslim family that moved into the neighborhood. So, to Groening and the other writers of the show, insulting and stereotyping Muslims is wrong, but insulting and stereotyping Christians is a- ok.
