Guman tried to gain access to Fort Leonard Wood
« on: May 12, 2011, 01:07:23 PM »

An incident occurred at Fort Leonard Wood at approximately 8:30 a.m. this morning when a male driver with invalid identification attempted to access FLW through the west gate in a vehicle.

The Department of the Army Civilian Policeman stationed at the west gate stopped the individual and instructed him to pull over and submit to further inspection.

The driver was ordered to turn around and leave the installation due to having improper  documentation.  The driver chose not to do the right thing and continued driving through the west gate toward the main (north) gate on post where he was pursued by military police at Fort Leonard Wood to the point where the vehicle exited the installation through the main gate.

Police are searching Rolla for a reported gunman who was on the campus of the Missouri University of Science and Technology, and fired shots nearby. Campus and surrounding businesses were still on lockdown.

The school reported that the suspect, a white male with sandy blonde hair, was to be considered dangerous and his hand may be bleeding. Police recovered a firearm near McNutt Hall.

The school website reports the gunman was on campus around 8:55 a.m., but had left campus at around 9:10 a.m. No shots were fired on campus and no injuries were reported. The suspect was last seen in a residential area northwest of campus across Interstate 44.

McNutt, an academic building, has been placed under lockdown and students and staff on campus are being asked to stay indoors. Those not on campus were asked to stay away.

Nah.  Just a nut meth-head.

Apparently he actually was on the Fort; he was stopped at one gate and then rabbited through it when they tried to deny him entrance, was pursued, and then went right out the next gate to the east within a couple of minutes, from where he went on to Rolla.

Just add another felony charge or two onto the pile of other charges (some of which are assuredly felonies as well).

Yeah, of course that one pales in comparison to shooting at the Deputies/State Troopers after he left the Fort!

For the life of me, I do not understand why the military does not shoot to kill any SOB that drives thru a gate?. That would stop this shit.

I would think that a car ramming the gate after the driver was refused admittance would be reason to raise the local threat condition.

When it's one nutbar ex-convict on his own and he's already been taken into custody, the reason for that kind of gets taken off the board.

Probably not for an isolated one-wacko incident.

The Threatcon system, I think, tends to look at things a little more globally.

I'm surprised that they didn't lock down the base right away. You just can't drive onto a base w/o identification. It's amazing that they didn't catch him on base.

FLW is a large base, have been there on sales calls over the years. I'm glad that they caught the guy.

Here at the jarhead base they would have triggered the bollards and stopped him.  Or shot him, well probably both.  Especially since we're under Bravo and have been since UBL was killed.

He didn't exactly stop for a burger, he rabbited from the West Gate stop, was pursued, and went straight out the North Gate, the fact he was armed and willing to shoot developed later, after he left, when the State and County officers were chasing him.  A full legal and tactical discussion of the ins and outs of shooting at fleeing cars would be boring to anyone but physical security specialists or lawyers, and really involve operational procedure details that shouldn't be on the internet in the first place.
