Today's DU quote from President Thomas Jefferson

March 4, 1801 - In his inaugural address, President Thomas Jefferson asserted, "Take not from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned."

I'm guessing the goons are thinking he was talking about labor unions.
Seems to me that quote could be a good argument against taxing the piss out of everyone.

Quote
"...a wise and frugal government, which shall restrain men from injuring one another, which shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned. This is the sum of good government."

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

Omaha Steve must have overlooked this one by FDR.

We all know the DUmbasses tend to contradict themselves, but this is precious.. Omaha Steve took a quote out of context considering labor, after bitching about an Obama quote getting taken out of context considering labor just two weeks earlier.

Obama was quoted out of context on Wisconsin public workers! (video & transcript)

Edited on Thu Feb-17-11 12:14 AM by Omaha Steve

Obama's reply starts at just under the 4 minute mark.

“I would say as a general proposition that everybody has got to make some adjustments to new fiscal realities. And I think if we want to avoid layoffs, which I want to avoid -- I don’t want to see layoffs of hard-working federal workers. We had to impose, for example, a freeze on pay increases for federal workers for the next two years as part of my overall budget freeze. I think those kinds of adjustments are the right thing to do.

On the other hand, some of what I’ve heard coming out of Wisconsin, where you’re just making it harder for public employees to collectively bargain generally seems like more of an assault on unions. And I think it’s very important for us to understand that public employees, they’re our neighbors, they’re our friends. These are folks who are teachers and they’re firefighters and they’re social workers and they’re police officers. They make a lot of sacrifices and make a big contribution. And I think it’s important not to vilify them or to suggest that somehow all these budget problems are due to public employees.

Yeah, DUmbass, I'm sure Thomas Jefferson would agree with what's happening right now in WI, ya ****in' twit!

Seems to me he and others tried everything they could do to keep us from it! It is we who have bastardized our Founding Fathers' "more perfect union"!

And you pricks close your eyes to the fact!
I'm the guy your mother warned you about!

1. Not what it appears

Jefferson was saying something much more libertarian:

"...a wise and frugal government, which shall restrain men from injuring one another, which shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned. This is the sum of good government."

Lost in Space will soon be booted from DU, for doing nothing more than pointing out a truth that would be obvious to 99.999999% of Mankind.
