Top Gear China Gets Green Light

Quote
The Chinese automotive market is a rapidly growing beast that is consuming automakers and the producers of the hit show Top Gear are jumping in on the action with a new version for the People’s Republic of China.

The report comes from TheTycho, who spoke with China’s CCTV, who confirmed that Top Gear China has been given the green light for production. The hosts have already been selected and filming is underway in Beijing. Lets just hope they don’t steal any footage from other countries this time.

Top Gear China will follow in a long line of watered-down automotive programs that originated with Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May in the United Kingdom. Australia was the first to get their own version of the program, followed by Russia and the United States. While each has not come close to the popularity of the original, all three have interesting characteristics that make them unique.

I blundered onto the British version last Saturday, while scanning the HD channels for a hoot.  The episode was the one where the three of them have to get 1000 miles through Bolivia to the Pacific Ocean, using locally-bought SUVs.  One guy had a Range Rover, another had a Suzuki Samurai, and the last one got an old Toyota Land Cruiser.  I almost had an asthma attack from laughing, it was that good.

You really need to see more of them.  I have seen all of them that they show, at least twice.  My favorites are recorded on my DVR.

The guy in the Range Rover setting the Land Cruiser on fire was hilarious. :lmao: :rotf:

Some of my favorite shows are the ones with the Bugattii Veyron. If it went any faster the paint would peel off.

Who doesn't love the Veyron?  I mean really! All time favorite episode so far is Oliver and Africa though.

What's a Veyron?  Is it anything like a Cylon?   :whistling:

Oliver!!

I loved that episode.  The only part that may have been funnier in that episode, other than the ongoing saga of Hammond and Oliver, was when Jeremy's Lancia caught on fire in a very specific area.   :rotf:

Did you know he brought Oliver back with him to England?

Yeah, I saw that.  That was awesome!  I have a soft spot for the Opel anyway.  They really hate the Bug, eh?

I think the bug is one of only a handful of cars that all three of them dislike.  I can't remember what the other ones are.
