Australia evacuated thousands of people from its northeast coast on Tuesday as a cyclone rivalling Hurricane Katrina bore down on tourism towns and rural communities, with officials saying it could even threaten areas deep inland that were ruined by floods last month.

The flooding there must just seem never-ending.   :o

It will be interesting to see how repairs and restoration are carried out there versus Katrina.  I'd imagine the people there are far wealthier than most of those harmed by Katrina, but the damage there appears so vast.

Well it was a pretty wild ride but we dodged a bullet.

I live in the city at the northern end of the impact area, and had a very stressful couple of days and a very very stressful night. I fully expected to come out of my heavily reinforced solid pour concrete "shed" to find my house, and my neighbors houses scattered across several acres.

This was not the case, and the winds didn't come nearly as strong for nearly as long as expected.

None of my property was damaged besides one tree, that my good buddy Mr C Saw dealt with in about 15 minutes

Less than 5 casualties total that I'm aware of, which is the big thing. Property can be rebuilt and replaced, people cannot.

I really feel for the people that lived in the small towns to the south of here that were the worst hit - many of them have lost everything. Crops are devastated, buildings and lives are destroyed.

However : We will endure, We Will rebuild and we WILL recover stronger and better than before.

This is NOT something we heard from the Katrina victims.

Those "VICTIMS" didn't come from the same stock as the Aussies and the "original" Americans.
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

That is because the MGC didn't have victims.  Only survivors.

Since I couldn't hit the nonexistent "edit" button, I want to add that I typed the above in utmost respect.  One country has fought on the side of the USA in every conflict since WWI--and it's not the Brits, as they stayed out of Vietnam.
