Huffington Post, the liberal-leaning online news site that has been one of the Internet's start-up success stories, said it agreed to a $315 million buyout late Sunday night from AOL Inc., the elder statesman of online access and digital content. Huffington Post founder Arianna Huffington, who made the announcement on her site Sunday night, will become president and editor in chief of the Huffington Post Media Group, which will put the news outlet she co-founded under the same ownership as AOL's collection of sites. Huffington - the former wife of one-time Republican Senate candidate Michael Huffington - has evolved into a well-known pundit and author, and a powerful player in Democratic circles as a result of her venture.

AOL Plunges Into the Deep End of Moonbattery With HuffP

Online company AOL Inc. is buying online news hub Huffington Post in a $315 million deal that represents a bold bet on the future of online news. …
Perhaps just as important as picking up a news site that ranks as one of the top 10 current events and global news destinations, AOL will be adding Huffington Post co-founder and media star Arianna Huffington to its management team as part of the deal.
After the acquisition closes later this year, Huffington will be put in charge of AOL's growing array of content…

....and it's stock will drop to what?

I wonder how many AOL customers that don't like HuffPo's liberal views will cancel their accounts.

Wait? They still have customers?   :-)  In all seriousness, I have read that people are still paying AOL even though they are now getting their internet through DSL or Cable.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

I figure their customer base is mostly old folks and computer-illiterate housewives.  :-)

Kind of what  I was wondering.  It's a moribund enterprise, what the Hell does the whole misbegotten lash-up gain by turning the content reins over to Arianna?   I believe I heard on the financial news this morning that the payoff was four or five years of HuffPo's current annual revenue, which means it isn't exactly an internet titan either.

Good to see AOL is appealing to it's customer base. They've noticed that most of their customers log in at HuffPo when they go online. AOL is trying to establish itself as the Dial-up Moonbat Service.  :-)

AOL bought HuffPo, and at an inexplicably-high price, but for some weird and equally-inexplicable reason, the deal also involves Arianna getting content control of AOL.  Very peculiar.

Just a tad.      :???:

That was a little sarcasm on my part. Bad sarcasm, I guess...  :-)
