New California Gov. Jerry Brown, facing tremendous budget problems, has proposed a statewide budget that eliminates state spending on public libraries entirely. Those cuts amount to around $30 million.

If Brown's budget is passed as is, it will eliminate state funding for the Public Library Foundation, Transaction Based Reimbursement and the California Library Literacy and English Acquisition Service. Public libraries across the state also receive funding from other sources.

A response to Brown's proposed budget by California Library Assn. President Paymaneh Maghsoudi has been posted on the organization's website. ...

This is what dems do...start cutting the things that are SUPPOSED to be in the budget, leave the bullsh*t entitlements alone. People complain about the libraries falling apart and then the dems come back with - tax increases.

Amazing that Jerry should want to eliminate state funding for libraries, saving $30 million, when 3 million illegals consume $9 BILLION a year, with the anchor babies sucking up $7.7 BILLION in education costs, according to this 2-year-old data.

Can you imagine the outcry if Brown was a Rethug?  So far, silence or agreement from the Dems that caused this mess.   :hammer:
“The national budget must be balanced. The public debt must be reduced; the arrogance of the authorities must be moderated and controlled. Payments to foreign governments must be reduced, if the nation doesn't want to go bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance.”

On one hand this is a transparent ploy since it will be unacceptable to the legislature and public, on the other hand, large libraries offer unbelievably extended services in some places that go far beyond just providing the basic access to information we all think of for them, which really goes far beyond anything that shouldt be publicly funded.

Don't forget give illegals a place to stay and make some money so they can send it back to Mexico.

Don't worry, boys and girls, the Assembly will put the money right back in, and Governor Moonbeam will give a shrug after his wink and nod, claiming, "Well, I tried."

'Zackly.  It's a scare card.  To the extent it isn't purely window dressing, this is at best a trick to get the legislature to go "My God, we can't do that!!!" on the theory that they will go back to the drawing board and come up with real cuts elsewhere.

However the problem with that strategy is that the California legislature is totally incapable of doing that since addressing the shortfall would actually involve curtailing entitlements (Including the State pension system), since current services by the State only have so much to give and it isn't nearly enough (On top of which, the payroll withholding of the current employees is paying the existing retirees, so if one card falls...).

Can't be pissing off the new dem voters once amnesty is passed.

I read somewhere that illegals cost the collective US federal and state governments some ridiculous amount of money... like 375 billion a year.
