SAN DIEGO — The U.S. Department of Justice said Monday it will oppose moving the case of accused gunman Jared Lee Loughner out of Arizona to another location, including San Diego.

The statement pushed back at a report by The Washington Post Sunday that cited anonymous federal law enforcement sources saying “federal court authorities” were preparing for the Loughner case to be moved in the next few weeks because of the massive publicity about the case in the state.

He is accused of killing six people, including a federal judge, and shooting Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz,, at an event in Tucscon that the congresswoman held to meet constituents.
Hmm DOJ wants it to stay in AZ it seems. Why do you think forum?

I don't know why they would oppose moving it, but I don't see any reason to move it either.

Ummm, most of the judges knew the judge that got killed?? Can we say "conflict of interest due to personal involvement with one of the victims"

Wouldn't any judge in another district likely hold a personal grudge for that, anyway?

Personal grudge = "Prejudicial to the defendant" = overturned verdict when, not if, the appeal is filed.

Best course of action is change of venue.

I'm OK with them moving the trial. The defense can't use the tainted jury excuse during the appeal phase that way.

Moving it to another state seems kind of pointless if it's about adverse pretrial pubicity, the thing got nationwide wall-to-wall coverage.

Just so long as the Sheriff's department announces in advance which door Mr. Whackjob with a Technicality is exiting the building from and when, I think the rest can be taken care of.  A phone call to an inmate in the Jail; a little "altercation" at just the right time to draw all of the COs away, and some anonymous citizen can dispense some proper justice and put an end to this whole comic tragedy properly.
