China Raising Export Duties on Rare Earths
« on: December 15, 2010, 10:09:22 PM »
AP article

Eh, what do we care about Rare Earths?  Oh wait, with Obama crippling the oil and gas industry, we need those for the alternate forms of energy production.  It looks like Teh Won has found another way to enrich the ChiComs.

My dad worked on the cerium mine up in Mountain Pass, CA (top of the hill on I-15 just over the CA/NV border.)

It has sat idle for a decade because of "environmental concerns."

A self-inflicted wound not unique to the mining industry.
