Years ago, when we got 24" of snow on top of ice....my electricity went out about 5am on Saturday morning and didn't come back on until Wednesday.
I didn't have to throw anything out that was in the freezer in the garage. In the refrigerator in the house...just the milk, hamburger (that I had just bought on Friday) and the ice cream in the freezer. It was so cold in the house - the thermostat was at 50, and it was almost as cold in the garage as it was outside, that everything else was ok.
Ok is a relative term....the laundry room pipes froze, and so did the expensive part on the sprinkler system...of course they all burst too.
