Pictures from India
« on: October 10, 2010, 10:55:04 PM »
I'm running around India and I've taken a few pics while I've been here.  I thought I would share some pictures before Pakistan does something crazy with their nukes (see recent news).  :)

This is the Rajiv Ghandi Sea Link bridge leading to Mumbai.  It's a crazy looking bridge.

This is a Muslim man sitting at the Haji Ali Mosque which sits out in the middle of the ocean just off shore of Mumbai.

This is a shot of a man laying on the sidewalk in Pune.  Poverty is rampant in India.  It's not uncommon to see people laying in the road or on sidewalks.

Bicycles and motor cycles dominate the city.  This image was taken in Pune.

Cattle are sacred and in a city of 12 million people you will see ownerless cattle roaming the streets.

If anyone is interested in more images, I'll post more later.

Help keep America beautiful...deface a liberal.

The Democrat and Republican parties are simply the left and right wings of the same bird of prey.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

Thank you everyone.

This is the Autorickshaw, it's a little two stroke engined taxi cab.  It's covered but has open doors and it's steered like a bicycle.  These things are literally everywhere.  It costs about $2 US to go just about anywhere you want.

This is a shot of the Mosque I mentioned earlier that sits out on the ocean with a shallow walkway leading to it.

Street vendors are a way of life around here.  Every street is lined with shops and street vendors.  Many are "squaters", meaning they have no property rights to their shops, they simply found an open spot and set their shop up on someone elses property.   There are literally millions of people across the country doing this and the government appears to be powerless to stop them for doing it.

Here's a street vendor and his cart.

I have plenty more images to process when I get home.  I'm leaving tonight for the US so this weekend I'll have a chance to sort through the hundreds of images I've captured and share a few more.

I wish I could, but I'll be at the airport in Mumbai when the sunset happens and I won't be able to get much of a picture today.  I'm heading home tonight.  :(
