Weird Sunday Dental thread: 

This is neither about teeth nor patients, nor about the unfair health-care system in these United States...

No, it's about a strange phenomenon which just occurred...

So I'm here at my office getting ready to move a few floors in order to "right-size" my operation. A dentist went out of business a year ago and left a modern, clean, well-appointed shell, and as my 25 year lease is coming due soon, I chose to relocate rather than to stay put and pay for a grander, but much more expensive space.

But that is neither here nor there: so again, here I am sorting stuff which I've saved forEVER, and I came upon my stash of New Yorker, New Republic, The Nation (didn't put THAT one out in the waiting room!), Scientific American, People(!) and The Journal of Irreproducible Results(!!).

Now I had saved certain of the political mags for a reason - of that I'm certain - but I largely couldn't figure out which article piqued my interest upon review. I had the political issues from Carter's, Reagan's, Bush I's, and Clinton's elections, Reagan's Alzheimer's People issue (who didn't know THAT was going on?), and various and sundry other mags, as I stated, I'm not sure why I saved those particular ones.

But what is REMARKABLE, utterly AMAZING, is that in perusing many of the stories, no one had any idea at all whatsoever that we were going to become THIS NIGHTMARE into which we have evolved...NONE at all whatsoever.

It was all about micro-changes in the great 'status-quo' and even the Reagan Revolution was utterly tame compared with this rapid, exponentially increasing in velocity, descent into Hell.

There was little mention made of advancing technologies, of the remote possibilities even of the Iron Curtain's demise...NADA. and these go back to 1979...and a few even before.

I'm stunned at...at...I don't really KNOW what's rendering me speechless...but I am. Toffler was right...he just underestimated the rate of change. Sheesh...is all I can say...
