Insurance Companies: Health Care Reform To Blame

DENVER -- Thousands of Colorado children will soon have fewer options for health insurance. And parents who may not be able to afford it for themselves, but want it for their children won't have that option.

Ironically the change is as a result of the health care reform act.
7NEWS learned several large insurance companies are no longer offering child-only health policies.

Child-only policies are typically obtained by families because sometimes it's cheaper than a family health plan through an employer. But most often parents who cannot afford health insurance for themselves purchase a child-only policy to make sure their kids are insured even if they are not.

According to Dr. Larry Wolk, with Rocky Mountain Youth Clinics, child-only policies are for parents who may make too much money for Medicaid, but not enough to afford health insurance.

But, but, I thought it was to help the children?

From the article, they are just not accepting new policies, while maintaining the current ones.  Because if they accepted new policies, they wouldn't be able to rule a child ineligible for medical care due to "pre-existing conditions".

I'm not certain that Health Care Reform is actually to be blamed for this, but more so of it being one of the bumps in reforming our medical system.

This was not health insurance per-say but I and my kids had a policy from our schools to cover expenses if an accident happend on school grounds or class trip.

Don't know if they still have these things or if it absolved the schools from law suits.

I do know for $15.00 a year my parents know they would get $5,000 for every finger I lost.

I stopped buying the policy for my kids when I read the very small print that said that the policy was invalid if the parents had their own insurance on the child and included Military care.

It's to help the children and lower costs, says dumbo. What a liar! :bird:
Like Pelosi the goat said, "We have to pass the bill, to see what it's in." :censored:
