Islamophobia...among muslims?
« on: September 20, 2010, 08:20:12 AM »
The WSJ:

Quote
Islam's Encounters With America
A survey by Elaph, the most respected electronic daily in the Arab world, saw 58% object to the building of the WTC mosque.

By FOUAD AJAMI

From his recent travels to the Persian Gulf—sponsored and paid for by the State Department—Imam Faisal Abdul Rauf returned with a none-too-subtle threat. His project, the Ground Zero Mosque, would have to go on. Its cancellation would risk putting "our soldiers, our troops, our embassies and citizens under attack in the Muslim world."

Leave aside the attempt to make this project a matter of national security. The self-appointed bridge between America and the Arab-Islamic world is a false witness to the sentiments in Islamic lands.

The truth is that the trajectory of Islam in America (and Europe for that matter) is at variance with the play of things in Islam's main habitat. A survey by Elaph, the most respected electronic daily in the Arab world, gave a decided edge to those who objected to the building of this mosque—58% saw it as a project of folly.

Out of curiosity Mr. Bunny, where have all these Mideastern Muslims suddenly come from ?

Were they around in such numbers before 911 and we just didn't notice them.?

Reports from Mufferiesbrough Murfreesboro Tenn tell of the problem the Muslims are having building a Mosque.

I lived a few years withing yelling distance from there and never saw any Muslim woman or children in that part of the Bible Belt.   Now there seems to be thousands of them, WTF,  did they suddenly sprout from the ground all with legal papers to be there.?

Small town across the river in Maine from me, perhaps 15,000 people total and their library is offering free language classes in Middle Eastern language.

Why on earth not teach French or Spanish unless the town is prepared to have citizens that speak that language.?

As the Southern part of our country struggle with illegal aliens seems the other part of the country have Muslims that are never questioned about their status in this country, just keeping to showing up out of the blue, building their Mosques and demanding we adjust to their culture--the Hell with ours.

HIMMMMMM, most interesting, could be this is just paranoia on my part.????

What the hell are  you on about?

You talk about the south as if it is some exclusive bastion of xenophobia yet the OP itself is about the mosque in New ****ing York.

Yes, they've been around since 9/11 but as sensible people might admit something happened that heightened the sensitivity of the general populace to the presence of Muslims.

Now this factoid, in and of itself, should answer any and all charges of Islamophobia: it took the exceedingly vicious and unprovoked actions of 9/11 to stir the gnerally tolerant and accepting US populace into anything resembling casting a skewed eye on their neighbors for any reason approaching ethnicity.

That was me pre 9/11. Muslims prayed several times a day and could have several wivies.....and if he didn't bother me, I wouldn't bother him. THEN 9/11 HAPPENED AND I STARTED LEARNING.....them bastards need to go, they shouldn't be here.

I did a rotten job explaining myself to Mr. Bunny.

Up until 911 if a Muslim wanted to pray at a Mosque they would have to head for the big city's, to find one.

Today there are enough Muslims to support well over the 2,000 in this country and more are being built each day out in the boonies.  Where are they finding adherents to build these expensive Mosques in small towns in Maine ?

In 300 years we have never had the need for a mosque in my area but a small town north of us about 20 miles away has one now I bet we have at least 3 of them in a 50 mile area.  This is not taking Boston or Mass. into consideration.

In less then 10 years these Mosques are popping up like mushrooms after a wet season .

So, Johnny, how have I lived my life all over the country and only on a rare occasion seen woman and young girls wearing the scarf---- if they have been here all the time.??

I think I must have began to notice them after 911 at work when the Temps were brought in and I worked with the woman.

I don't know what tied Mr. Bunny's knickers in a twist, I just thought it a bit odd that there would be enough Muslims in Tenn. to build a Mosque when they are that close to Nashville.

There in that area I would wonder if Catholic Churches were to spring up almost over night.  Or Greek Orthodox --Russian Orthodox Churches.

We have to in this day and age keep an eye out for the unusual, strange to us ,and wonder what the hell is going on.

In 9 years, such a short time when the stasis quo is overturned by strangers who come from a part of the world that hates us and our culture,  this is like finding a big fat RAT in the baby's crib.

One can say perhaps the Rat is someones pet that escaped and people friendly.  Look, the Rat is not hurting the baby just licking their toes. How many Rats do you have to see in the baby's crib to realise this is very odd.

Were it not for the life style of the Adherents and their culture that teaches the followers to kill all outsiders, I would not worry.

But then some are blind to coming trouble and will leave a new born on a chair alone with a adult Pit Bull.

Interesting article. It mentions how Arabs first came to America in the 19th century. Many of them settled in the South, particularly Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana.
