Perky,

My last year of public school (9th grade) I had a history teacher who spent the better part of the year preaching to us the evils of capitalism and the terrible unfairness of the american way of life.  I remember from the beginning of the second semester into April, it was all Upton Sinclair, and required reading of "The Jungle", all the time.  Discussion of The Jungle, book reports on chapters of The Jungle, etc.  I was a vocal opponent of her  :censored: she was trying to pass off as facts set in stone, and needless to say, she failed me.  I had never failed a class before, and more importantly, certainly not in my favorite subject.  My parents were not happy, and pulled me back into home school again (I began public schooling in 2nd grade).

I have a very, very low opinion of public school teachers, with history teachers being at the very bottom of the barrel.

Starting to see a pattern here. :-)

That's what gets me about these idiots from the dump. Many examples from history, some recent, and they think they can make it happen successfully.

I swear I think we should send all these people to North Korea and let them get an education from the school of reality.

I know, right?!!? lol :mental:
They figure if they throw enough money at it, eventually it will work. That's a big FAIL!

11. The only one I ever saw that worked well

was an SDS commune with 13 people plus guests and only one bathroom. I was there all the time and I never heard a single fight over bathroom space.

While many were the type of Marxists who had never read Marx, I honestly do believe with that sort of skill level, they really could have ruled the world. Alas, they weren't receptive to my telling them what the rest of the country was really like, so they didn't have a chance.

Usually communes break apart because some people are lazy and some are greedy, usually the same people. Co-ops have a better track record, with each person buying a share and membership a little more fluid, shares being bought and sold as people come and go.

Okay now I know this has to be a bouncy. When I was in college I shared a house with 2 other girls. We had one bathroom. It was a living hell. After one girl moved out, we got a male roommate (we stopped looking after we interviewed the cute one). It was much better with one less girl.

I don't know, what makes you think they all knew how to use indoor plumbing?

InRe: Education

I started first grade in a parochial school (Catholic) in 1955. No pre-K, no kindergarten, straight into first grade.

One of the first things we learned was numbers. After we got the concept of numbers, then we learned letters. About halfway through  the year, we got a book of tables: addidton, subtraction, multiplication, and division, through 10.

By the time we finished first grade, we had mastered addition and subtraction through 10, and could read basic words.

These foundations served me well throughout my life. If you can read, add, and subtract, you can learn anything.
Don't get stuck on stupid...

Leftwing lunatic thought process concerning police: I'm armed with bad breath and body odor. The police are armed with a badge, a tazer, a 9mm, and a shotgun.  I should antagonize them.
