The rabbit is not the most dangerous killer of the ptarmigan -- everything you have read to date has all been a sham, a ruse, a deflection.  

The true enemy of the ptarmigan and the rabbit is the stoat:

It seems that if one member of the avian family is siding with the bunnies, then maybe the ptarmigans did something to piss them off.
