"Would you feel comfortable showering in an open bay shower in front of a known homosexual?"

Nice, dignified survey, Mr. President.

70. The actual question doesn't use the term "known homosexual".and is multiple choice

Edited on Sat Jul-10-10 01:19 AM by Turborama
The actual question: If Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell is repealed and you are assigned to bathroom facilities with an open bay shower that someone you believe to be a gay or lesbian Service member also used, which are you most likely to do?

It's not a yes or no question, it's multiple choice.

Here are the answers they can give...

“Take no action"

“Use the shower at a different time than the Service member I thought to be gay or lesbian"

“Discuss how we expect each other to behave and conduct ourselves"

“Talk to a chaplain, mentor, or leader about how to handle the situation"

“Talk to a leader to see if I had other options"

“Something else"

“Don't know.”

ETA It is telling that they use the term "Take no action" instead of "Take a shower", though.

OOOPs!!

I give **** all how they feel about showers if it doesn't effect the core issue. A more proper question would be: "Would knowing a squad member was gay detract from *your* ability to function effectively in a combat situation?"

I can't imagine many people in a firefight are going to be thinking about who is into who when a bullet is flying by their face. And if they are, they need to go.

That aside...the entire survey is a shitty idea.

Would you feel comfortable in a combat situation next to the guy that hasn't showered in 7 months?   :lmao: :lmao:

Dear DUmmies--yeah, it MIGHT matter if you have to spend time wondering whose dick that guy sucked on leave and if he doesn't have some nice nasty bloodborne diseases such as HIV, etc.

I'll give you assclowns another phrase few of you have likely heard, having never worn a uniform.  It's called, "Prejudicial to good order and discipline."

How could you not be uncomfortable showering in front of someone who may or may not be getting aroused from the experience?   It is asking a lot for anyone to do that, why should service members be ordered to do it?

Yeah, and all those females service members that don't want to shower in front of heterosexual males...y'all need to remember its the combat mission.

Before DADT, I was on AD and I know that there were gay service members in the same unit I was.  I actually had more problems with strait guys banging their girlfriends in out barracks room.  Never once did I ever hear of or see any actions like that from a gay service member.

Get rid of DADT, and hold ALL service members to the same level of expectations and behavior.
You see, I don't care you how feel.  I really don't.  More importantly, neither does anyone else.  Only about 200 people on a planet of 7 billion actually care about your feelings, and that's if you're lucky.  The sooner you grasp this lesson, the better off you will be.  And since almost no one gives a damn what you do, say, think, or feel, appealing to your feelings when you encounter differences of opinion is not only illogical, but useless.

Reading the headline I thought it was about the whales at the DUmp.  I would sooner scratch my eyes out than go see that expanse of cottage cheese in the shower....mind bleach STAT!!!!

Apparently Oregone is operating under the mistaken impression that lower enlisted Soldiers are either those cute but ineffective military robots from the crappier end of the Star Wars saga, or working on union scale for seven hours a day with scheduled breaks, FLSA coverage, and private housing.

Had a lesbian in my berthing. Never had a problem with her.
Now the ones that always got in trouble were the hetero couples that couldn't keep it in their coveralls.

The problem is that most primitives think that all gays are the ones that are marching in matching thongs in the pride parades. Most of them that I know are quietly living their lives and unless you met their partners you would never know.

And Article 134 (among others) applies to them as well.  Never said I was excusing bad behavior based on sexual preference.  And having dealt with it on a mixed-gender crew (tender), it's more of a headache than I wanted to deal with...any counseling session involving a female required TWO senior people in the room and the door open, simply to eliminate the possibility of any, "he said, she said" bullshit, but it still happened.

My son and I have talked about this and he says he doesn't really think he'd care. But he's been around gay people all his life so he understands why it would be easier for him. Most guys he knows says it would probably be similar to when the service was unsegregated. It would feel weird at first but after a while no one would think about it any more. They all think it would be a bad idea to put them with the grunts.

I think it would be a bad idea to not have something to keep any service member from having open season to do whatever they wanted. As others have pointed out there are UCMJ regs that should be kept to maintain order. There have been far more things going on against Homosexuals in the past then people know and to expect everyone to get along just because DADT is repealed is crazy. A few years ago two guys at Ft Campbell killed another troop just because they thought he was gay. They beat him to death in his barracks room and they rightfully got jail time for it.

When I was in the military, I can certainly attest to the fact that showering amongst hetero females was uncomfortable enough.  Had I been compelled to get undressed in front of lesbians I would have felt as affronted and outraged as I would have been had I been forced to shower with hetero males.  The sole exception would have been showering immediately after being exposed to chemical attack.
If people can't understand how WRONG it is to make people undress in front of others who may be sexually attracted to them, I can't help their skewered sense of propriety and common human decency. :fuelfire:

Bottom line, even if some people think it wouldn't be a problem, many people are uncomfortable stripping off in front other people...and even moreso in front of people that might evidence attraction.  This is unlikely to have any effect on their battlefield performance.  I would think that people demanding "equal treatment" would also be quite willing to give that equal treatment to everyone, not just those that happen to fit the correct mold.

I know that I would not force a shy person to strip and shower in front of me, in a situation that makes that person very uncomfortable while I don't mind.  Yet, unfortunately, those that scream the loudest about being treated unequally are quite willing to force their own preferences onto all.

When I was in HS ...a hunnerd years ago....we had PE three times a week, and swimming once a week.

We had a bay shower, and showering after was mandatory, except for one week a month.

We had to walk, naked, from our locker to the shower...and it was a very large locker room. The teacher stood at the shower entry and checked off each girl's name as she came out, and grabbed a towel....after showering.

On swim days, we had to walk naked from our lockers to where we grabbed suits, then after class, take off the suit, then go to the shower, again to be checked off a list after.

I have no clue if any of the girls in my class were lesbian or not....it doesn't matter...it's was still a humiliating experience. I can only imagine it would have been even worse, if I had known there were girls that were lesbians in there too.

The problem is that the DUmmies refuse to see is this, You can pass almost any law you want forcing people to accept things but you still have the probelm of people joining the KKK and the New Black Panthers and other groups and they are still going to do what they want and unfortunately they will probably end up killing someone despite your best efforts to pass laws saying they can't.
