US to remain a magnet for the best and brightest from India: Obama
 Source: Economic Times (India)

President Barack Obama has pledged to fix America's "broken" immigration system to ensure that the US will remain a magnet for the best and the brightest from countries like India.

In his first major policy speech on the thorny issue of immigration, Obama revealed the broad contours of his vision of reform, which if implemented would be helpful to hundreds and thousands of people from countries like India, who are professionals and law abiding and add value to the American society.

... Obama said besides addressing the issue of illegal immigrants, a reformed system also needs to address the need for talented people to stay and contribute to the country.

"While we provide students from around the world visas to get engineering and computer science degrees at our top universities, our laws discourage them from using those skills to start a business or power a new industry right here in the United States," Obama said.

Personally, I'm for immigration restriction across the board, unless we can somehow trade DUmmies off to certain countries for their productive citizens. It's just the hypocrisy that is so striking:

16. That post just removed your credibility on this issue.

I have a very hard time fathoming how promoting foreign workers being hired here over our own is a "great idea". Please, enlighten us on the merits of enriching foreign citizens over our own jobless masses. Be sure to explain how that is helpful, wise, moral, or ethical.

We all await your response with bated breath.

Do tell.

23. You're joking, right? It may be a idea, but it's a ****ing stupid idea............
..........Give jobs to OUR people FIRST. **** the H1B visa, low wage "imports". Any one knows that it drives down wages even more. What he ought to be doing is try fix the WHOLE immigration system so that it's fair to EVERYBODY coming into the country, BUT does not hurt our workers. What he wants to do is the same ole, same ole.

PUT OUR PEOPLE TO ****ING WORK, FIRST!!!!!!!

26. No. You're being overrun with the unemployed and
underemployed. People who are in danger of losing their homes, who are living on food stamps, and who have no idea where they'll be sleeping a week from now or a month from now.

18. What a joke President's Obama's pledge is when
Silicon Valley, Austin, Seattle, Boston and much of America is bursting with highly educated talented people with advanced degrees who can't get a job.

When will Obama and Washington place American workers first and foremost especially given this country's employment situation?

55. Being anti-outsourcing/worker importing isn't racist
They may or may not be wrong about the jobs being "stolen" by foreign workers, but being wrong doesn't make them racist. Also, most of the criticism I see on here is not against the workers themselves, but more against the policies and the companies who do it...

But wanting Mexican immigrants to use the proper legal channels to come here is racist. Got it.

35. We don't have enough right here?
Sad that we seem to have the 'need' to import them.

Could it be because the Indians come here legally, become successful and vote Republican as opposed to the Mexicans to whom you hope to give amnesty and turn into a giant Democratic voting bloc?

Naaaaaaaaaaaah.

71. Wouldn't it be nice for politicians to start referring to Americans as "the best and brightest"?
Edited on Sat Jul-03-10 09:45 PM by Go2Peace
We are the only country in the world who puts down it's own citizens this way.

That comment almost made me spit my ice tea, the left constantly denigrates Americans, and the best and the brightest are constantly being smeared by them.

And the government-types do actually refer to themselves as the "best and the brightest" even as they screw up everything they touch

The DUmmies piss and moan about hard working people coming here legally, but they welcome the illegals with open arms.  :mental:  The DUmmies harp about the fact that big , evil corporations are moving jobs overseas, but they welcome illegals here that take jobs from Americans.  :mental:

Doncha know, they think they are the best and the brightest! Just ask 'em!

Yet they're chronically unemployed, depend on the government for subsistence, rife with mental and emotional issues, failures at interpersonal relationships, including their families, have to ask each other for instructions in even the simplest tasks, have to kick people with opposing viewpoints off the site to avoid being made fools of, and can't get their ponies even with their own people controlling government.

If they ever had to sit down and objectively evaluate themselves, the sound of heads popping would be heard clear 'round the world.

Damn, what a bunch of racist douchebags.  Not too bright either - the big savings in 'Hiring Indians' is outsourcing an entire operation to India, so the work is done IN INDIA, not in bringing people here and paying them comptetive wages in the US market.

People that want to come here legally and assimilate?  Great, I say!  We need them a lot more than we need day laborers that are as happy to fetch and carry for MS13 as they are to work any legal productive job, and then send 80% of what they make straight to Mexico and Central America while working under a stolen identity using some poor bastard's compromised SSAN.
