So this lady I work with comes up to me...

She's a Democrat who doesn't know it. Calls herself a republican but adheres much closer to the Democratic party base.

Anyway, she and her boyfriend (they are in their 60's), are having a rough time of it.

He just got fired from his job (lawsuit pending. age discrimination. he's got full blown cancer. He has a very good case). Anyway, he doesn't have health care now.

They freaked out.

They got on Cobra.

Then something interesting happened.

She said, "I was against the health care plan, I didn't like Obama (she still voted for him. She thinks failin, in her own words, "is a dumb ass". LOL), but now when she found out that the government takes up a huge portion of the cobra payments (not sure 60-65%?), she suddenly understands.

I politely explained to her, that what we got was health care insurance reform. There are some good things in it. That the devil is in the details. I further said, if we had health care reform, we would have something along the lines of, for example Canada, single payer system.

She began to spout off faux news talking points, I politely countered them all. She paused. And said, "why didn't they tell us that?" I asked her which news program she looks at? You all know the answer. I told her, "that's why".

She is a very smart woman but like many people out there doesn't have time to really look too deep into issues. She just gets "the headlines".

So before parting, she says, "this health insurance reform is pretty good". I looked at her and said, "it's a start, imagine not having to pay anything?"

She looked thoughtful and walked away.

One by one.

Missing the cop jumping out of the bushes and a cheering crowd of onlookers though.

Admits at the end that all they want is FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

The usual blather follows.

I call SERIOUS bullshit.  Having lost my father to cancer at the same age the bouncy claims, his job and his insurance company were wonderful to him and his wife.

They sure as hell weren't telling him to go home and die like he would have been told under ZeroCare.

Because, see, she is like so busy not working during her boyfriend's (*cough*) unemployment, hanging out where I work and drinking those $5 cups of coffee, you know?

Now, now, thy would have given him a pill to ease his pain, doncha know. Bummer has stated so more than once! That's his idea of gubmint healthcare after you've reached "the age"!
