Obama's lead over Clinton evaporating
« on: March 19, 2008, 08:41:27 AM »
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democrat Barack Obama's big national lead over Hillary Clinton has all but evaporated in the U.S. presidential race, and both Democrats trail Republican John McCain, according a Reuters/Zogby poll released on Wednesday.

The poll showed Obama had only a statistically insignificant lead of 47 percent to 44 percent over Clinton, down sharply from a 14 point edge he held over her in February when he was riding the tide of 10 straight victories.

Illinois Sen. Obama, who would be America's first black president, has been buffeted by attacks in recent weeks from New York Sen. Clinton over his fitness to serve as commander-in-chief and by a tempest over racially charged sermons given by his Chicago preacher.

The poll showed Arizona Sen. McCain, who has clinched the Republican presidential nomination, is benefiting from the lengthy campaign battle between Obama and Clinton, who are now battling to win Pennsylvania on April 22.

McCain leads 46 percent to 40 percent in a hypothetical matchup against Obama in the November presidential election, according to the poll.

That is a sharp turnaround from the Reuters/Zogby poll from last month, which showed in a head-to-head matchup that Obama would beat McCain 47 percent to 40 percent.

Rush had a poll yesterday where Clinton was solidly in the lead.. by eight or more points.  this whole Reverend thing has cost Barack BIG time.

But never fail, the Clintons will screw it up one way or the other. They are both too inept.. someone close to them will die, or be put on trial. And Hilary, Bill AND Chelsea are going on trial in the Stan Lee ordeal..

unsurprising.  he should have realized that being a cultural phenomenon carried with it a huge downside;  mainly, that there wasn't really any reasonable set of expectations on the part of his supporters. disappointment is the inevitable result of unreasonable expectations.

same thing with being a messiah;  not only had you better not appear human at any point, but you had also better produce a miracle somewhere along the way.

I didn't actually expect it to come crashing down quite this suddenly, but there really wasn't any substance behind the man to help him weather the storm when it finally arrived.

good point.  it's almost as thought the clintons just can't function unless they are on the edge of extinction;  they make the most moronic decisions imaginable when they are comfortable and unthreatened, and have a habit of being brilliant and lethal just before they get the dirt shoveled into their graves.

^excellent description! I can't wait to see what comes next.
I can see November 2 from my house!!!

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

Wow...BillW and I had a discussion over this a couple of weekends ago (you former RN folks remember him).

He thought that this kind of thing was going to take place at the convention.  Interesting to see that it's happening LONG before that.  And sure enough, the general public is gonna get tired of the Dem infighting and hand this race to McCain.
