Illegal immigrants plan to leave over Ariz. law

Illegal immigrants plan to leave over Ariz. law

By AMANDA LEE MYERS, Associated Press Writer Amanda Lee Myers, Associated Press Writer   â€“ 1 hr 33 mins ago

PHOENIX – Many of the cars that once stopped in the Home Depot parking lot to pick up day laborers to hang drywall or do landscaping now just drive on by.

Arizona's sweeping immigration bill allows police to arrest illegal immigrant day laborers seeking work on the street or anyone trying to hire them. It won't take effect until summer but it is already having an effect on the state's underground economy.

"Nobody wants to pick us up," Julio Loyola Diaz says in Spanish as he and dozens of other men wait under the shade of palo verde trees and lean against a low brick wall outside the east Phoenix home improvement store.

Many day laborers like Diaz say they will leave Arizona because of the law, which also makes it a state crime to be in the U.S. illegally and directs police to question people about their immigration status if there is reason to suspect they are illegal immigrants.

Supporters of the law hope it creates jobs for thousands of Americans.

"We want to drive day labor away," says Republican Rep. John Kavanagh, one of the law's sponsors.

imagine that!  you start enforcing immigration laws (or even threaten to) and the problem starts to crawl away.

As I live and breathe!  :o

If a similar law were enacted in a certain state I know about... say, Virginia for example... then perhaps a certain small business I know of, trying desperately to pick itself up off the ground, just may get a few more landscaping and lawncare gigs.  Just sayin.

Of course they'll go where the gubmint gravy train is. That's what they are up here for in the first place.

Yeah, now they'll all head to Texas, New Mexico, or California. Oklahoma already forced then to leave, now Arizona. Perhaps Perry will pull his head out of his ass and start similar legislation??

i guess that was the "imagine" part.

if enough states passed similar legislation (because we know we can't count on the federal government to do its job here) then all of the illegals would catch the next bus for san francisco...

Perry wants the border controlled first.
Quote
"When you have a porous border, and people are moving back and forth across that border, then it doesn't make any difference what you do on immigration policy, frankly," Perry said.

He adds the Lone Star State has been exacting that alone, spending years and millions of its own money funding border security.

"It can be done," Perry said. "It takes boots on the ground. It takes technology. I've been asking and talking about for almost four years for predator drones."

Perry is extremely critical of Washington's efforts, calling it a failure at securing the border.

"You can secure the border," he said. "I just don't know whether Washington DC has the interest."

Poor Utah, lots of hand wringing there.  I wonder how the State will handle the thousands of illegals marching into their state from their southern boarder with AZ.?

I'm guessing you haven't lived in Utah lately.  They've got plenty there already.

What Perry probably refuses to recognize, is that if he would follow Arizona's course of souring the milk for the illegals - penalizing employers heavily for knowingly hiring illegals, making state social services harder to get, and officers checking immigration status when you're busted breaking other laws would go a LOOOOONG way toward closing the border without another foot of fence going up.

I agree.  And, he may very well do that.  He may be just waiting until AFTER the election.  Or not.

Honestly, I don't see a good candidate for Texas Governor in this election. Perry is all for the Trans-Texas Corridor, the others, well, they're just lamerz. Someday, maybe, I might get involved in politics. First, I need to clean my own house. (That's a metaphor for you lurking DUmmies)

I hear ya.  Well not the running part, because I don't wanna.  But, yeah, this election is going to suck.

I hear ya.  Well not the running part, because I don't wanna.  But, yeah, this election is going to suck.

How things have changed in wellfare in the last 40 years.

Had an acquaintance in Cal. back in the early 1970's that I drove to a wellfare office to apply for help.  Her Hubby ran off leaving her with I think it was 5 kids.  At that time she had to produce her birth certificate, her drivers license and bring not only the kids but their birth certificates. She had to have proof of her address and it boggled my mind when they finally allowed her $120.00 a month in food stamps.
That was it, no money for the kids and their father did not help support them.

Jump into the future, Darn near the same situation this time in VA.  1984-5----next door to me lived a woman who was at least 60 years old. Her daughter and 2 kids moved in with her.    Here I go again trying to help when asked, took them all to welfare to see how the family could be helped.

That was a real mess, for one thing they were white folk and this was in a neighborhood 75% black.   When told that the kids father was long gone the woman asked why their grandmother did not get a job to help out.  Not one word was said about the Mother getting a job.----They got NOTHING.

Today things must be very different if Illegals can get food stamps and money to support their children when the father will not help.

Then the question of how people that come to this country as refuges from
Asia and after 2 years here living with family can get #SS.

I am beginning to understand why people don't get married anymore. There are more advantages for a woman to stay single when she has children, when Hubby runs off, her children get little.  As a single Mom, at least the kids get some kind of support from the State.

The local FOX affiliate just ran a loving profile of Saturdays pro-illegal immigration rally for Saturday. They talked to vendors, they showed the march route, they said DART was ready. Talked about how big turnout could be.

There was nothing at all negative or even questioning of their motives or anything.

i know...

all any of the msms seem to care about is "the challenges" to this legislation.  on the cnn website today there was a banner headline about how "students" thought that anyone supporting this legislation was "mean."  and that "mean people suck."

heh.

70+% of the arizona population (you know, the people that actually work and pay all of the taxes)  has no problem with this new arizona law.

all other polls of every other state overrun by illegals (except "maybe" california) also have no problem with this new arizona law.   many states are now considering similar/new legislation.

guess what, msm?  it is constitutional.  that's right! and when all of the challenges fail, be prepared for the rush of pee into your city sewer systems from the legs of liberals.  it might overwhelm them (heh. both the sewers and the liberals.)

the people are speaking.  through their thoughts and votes.  the media is trying to push its own agenda.   whatever.  america is not listening.

guess who is winning now?  no matter how hard you try?

ha!

All they need is a judge to overturn it.

That is how they roll.

The Party of the "people" and all that.

nah!  no problem.

if they do that...

then a quick trip up to the supreme court where even stevens couldn't have a problem with it, the way it is written.

stevens would be all...  ummm...   damn!   shit!  they got me here!

heh!
