Florida Keys man got stuck in the sand he was stealing
« on: April 20, 2010, 03:06:16 PM »
A Marathon man didn't get far after loading his truck with sand from a public beach. His truck got stuck in the sand, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

Brian Splain, 46, loaded up his 1989 Ford F-150 with sand from Coco Plum Beach Sunday in Marathon and was trying to turn around to leave when his truck got too close to the water and the wheels sank into the sand.

Three sheriff's deputies responded to calls from people who saw the stuck truck. The deputies talked to Splain, who appeared to be impaired. Splain failed field sobriety exercises, the report said.

Can't be a local....the bed of an '89 would have rusted off by now.

It could be.  I've got a '98 Ranger that's on it's second bed.  :whatever:

Salt's a bitch, it is true. As is the saying "rust never sleeps", and it is a true one. The new rino liner and body restproofing works pretty well. My jeep is remarkably sound after several hundred miles on the sand and more than one trip thru saltwater at low tide.....Around here the beaches are quartz , feldspar , garnet,  mica and iron oxide sand. Quite fine, too. Fl;a has that nice coral/shell sand that packs nicely and will alow a LIGHT vehicle to drive on it nicely. Here, you need 4wd and a SUBSTANTIAL ground clearance or you're STUCK and more than one has lost their vehicle to rising tides....

That is funny that he got stuck like that
