So, as everyone knows, I had major surgery a couple of months ago. I've been unemployed over a year, and was lucky to find out about a blue cross plan that my state offers to residents, and pays part of the premium for those on the ropes. The nature of my health issues maxed out my out of pocket contribution for the year on the first day. So my insurance is picking up all costs for the rest of the year, including a waiver on copays for visits and medication related to my condition.
However, on the way to hitting that maximum, I ran up a sizeable bill that I am responsible for. After two months, the hospital wanted to know when they might get paid. I told them my financial situation, and they sent me some forms to fill out: a monthly expense and income form, and a basic balance sheet. I filled them out and sent them in.
I just got a letter from the hospital. My bill is wiped clear, and any other bills I might incur over the next six months will also be covered for me.
Those eeevil hospitals!
