'Eighty killed' in Tibetan unrest

Chinese troops were out in force in Lhasa on Sunday

At least 80 people have been killed in unrest following protests by Tibetans against Chinese rule, the Tibetan government in exile says.

Indian-based officials said the figure was confirmed by several sources, even though China put the death toll at 10.

The Dalai Lama called for an international inquiry into China's crackdown, accusing it of a "rule of terror" and "cultural genocide".

Chinese troops were out in force in Lhasa, Tibet's main city, on Sunday.

Hong Kong Cable TV reported that about 200 military vehicles, each carrying 40 to 60 armed soldiers, had driven into the city.

Please read the entire story here:

The destruction of Tibetan culture continues unabated with barely any attention paid to it. Tragic.

Now, the cali primitive, being a first-tier primitive, has a cerebral capacity advanced beyond that of the average primitives, for whom the Maoists of China are their heroes.

The destruction of Tibetan culture reflects badly upon the Maoists.

Isn't this one of those issues the cali primitive should be trying to hide under the carpet, then?

I'm confused.

1. Nearly every store and business in Tibet has been burned or windows broken. Some reports have the death toll over 100. The Chinese have the towns on lock down, with armed guards and tanks patrolling the streets. All the while, the "official" Chinese "news" says the Tibetens are the ones killing innocents.

This is exactly why the Olympics should be boycotted.

2. Yes.

And it won't be. No one give a damn about Tibet.

I dunno.  franksolich gives a damn about Tibet.

franksolich was giving a damn about Tibet long before those stupid bumper-stickers.

3. No one? You forgot to count me, cali

Tibet is considered to be the place of the yang pole to the yin pole (Black Mesa) that lies here on Turtle Island within the Four Sacred Mountains of the Southwest.

When the yang pole is off balance because of greed, anger, hate and fear and violence, and the traditional keepers are assasinated and repressed, the yin pole also wobbles in profound distress, it's sacred uranium being gouged out of the Earth's breast and then used to make a vast number of nuclear WMDs and create poisonous, mutant waste that will last 10,000 years.

In a way, at least if one regards this situation through the Doctrine of Correspondence, this imbalance at the metaphysical yin-yang poles mirrors the imbalance and distress between men and women.

So for me - loving this land and this earth and striving to be in right relationship with its people and all its plant and animal creatures -- the caring for the people and land of Tibet is strong.

4. I didn't mean individuals

I meant a more general perception. And look how this thread is sinking. Thanks for your interesting post, though.

7. This is horrible

There needs to be a lot more international pressure on this.

I dunno.

It seems sort of hypocritical that the primitives are worried about the destruction of Tibet and the Tibetan culture, when they weren't too worried about the looting of Iraq and the Iraqi culture under the late genocidal homocidal tyrant Saddam Hussein.

This was before Skins's island existed, but one has no doubt if the primitives had been around while the Taliban of Afghanistan was in power, destroying all those ancient Buddhist monuments in that country, the primitives would've been cheering the Taliban on.

Consistency doesn't seem to be a primitive virtue, alas.

Next thing one knows, the primitives are going to start criticizing Fidel or Yugo or Bob or that little guy up there in North Korea.

It is all part of keeping those little belief compartments in their minds seperated.
