WABASSO — A golfer’s eagle had feathers.

A juvenile eagle swooped down and ran into a golf ball driven by a golfer around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the county’s Sandridge Golf Course.

The eagle flopped into some trees and fell to ground.

Treasure Coast Wildlife Hospital in Fort Pierce is treating the bird. It appeared alert, but one wing was dropping, a hospital official said Wednesday.

The golfer “felt bad and didn’t want to be identified,” said Indian River Animal Control Director Jason Ogilvie.

The eagle was sitting on the golf course when Ogilvie arrived shortly after the incident on the course’s second hole.
