I have a confession to make
« on: February 16, 2010, 09:01:44 PM »
Hi,

I recently read where there are about 1.8 million people in Florida with concealed weapons permits and the population is just about 18 million.  In round numbers that means about 10% of the population has permits.

When I am in a mall or a restaurant, I will confess to looking around seeing if I can spot the one person in ten who statistically could be carrying.  Now I exclude my wife and I.  The other night we went to dinner with two other couples, one a local judge.  I knew for a fact there were six at our table, two were former US marshalls so the restaurant was very, very safe.

My observation is there is an awful lot of ordinary looking folks, many senior citizens, who are able to defend themselves.  I just wonder if the libs realize their anti-gun stance alienates most all walks of life in this country.

If you are killing time in a mall or a public place, it is a fun game, try it you will find it is a lot of fun.

PS:  I screwed up, wanted to put this in General Discussions and it will not let me move it.....sorry.

When I'm out in public, I can look around and know that no one is carrying legally.  I sometimes think there may be a few that are carrying illegally.

So if we dont count kids... the percentage goes to 15% -20%?

I am not sure about the stats in my state, but I conceal carry, yes of course with a permit lol.

One unlucky guy discovered that there are people in his area that have this permit when he jumped into my car back in November.  The fool tries to carjack me and he is reaching into my pockets of my jacket while I am pulling out my 9mm.  Hes lucky the first round misfired, just a loud click.  The second round took off his finger and the bullet went through his leg.

Might give him something to think about for a while.  Needless to say he had an angel sitting on his shoulder when the first round misfired, he would have been dead.

Its not that easy to scare a Marine, its not like I was some old lady that needed help crossing the street.  This fellow picked the wrong guy that day.

Hi,

About 20 years ago we lived in Pensacola.  Seems the state of LA was having an awful time with carjackings, maybe 5-6 a day all over the state.  Finally they passed a law that said if you shot someone in the process of trying to carjack you, that you would not be prosecuted.  The very day the law went into effect, some guy ran up to a pickup truck at a stop sign and grabbed the door handle on the driver's side.  From what I gathered the driver had a pistol on the passenger seat, picked it up and shot the guy.....and nailed him with one round.  Of course it was in all the papers the following day.  At that point car jackings came to a screeching halt.

I told my wife that I found it amazing that one guy could have been responsible for all those carjackings all over the state.

Sure cannot imagine what that must feel like when it really happened to you.  My gut tells me the first instinct is you would be red hot angry and feel violated, and in a split second you would react instinctively.  I may have learned from your response.  I carry a Kel-Tec .380 in my pocket.  Most of the time I do not have a round in the chamber.  You mentioned a 9mm, my guess is it was a lot handier than trying to fish it out of your pocket with a seat belt on......and that one would be wise to have a round chambered at all times.

I carry my 9 in a holster on the side.  Its a quick release where you just push a button and it slides right out.  But if you dont push that button you could hold the weapon in the holster over your head, anchor it to something and do a pull up and it would not come out.

When he jumped in the car I hit the release on my seat belt and I pulled it out.  He was all over me really quick.  If I had a small pistol in my pocket I would have had no chance at getting it out.

After I called the police they didnt take long finding a nine finger man with a bullet hole in his leg.  The next day I discovered the whole story on the guy.  When he took off running out of my car he left his cell phone.  Well it wasnt actually his, he stole it the previous night off of another guy he robbed.  Then about two to three weeks prior he had raped a woman and for the past year he had been robbing all the elderly people in his neighborhood.  The neighborhood he lives in sent me a message saying thank you for getting him off the street.  The police gave me no trouble at all, especially after they found out who I shot.  One of them even told me I would have done them a favor if I had killed him.  What a reputation for someone to have.

I wasnt afraid when it happened.   I was actually so pissed off I had to relax a bit to react.  My wife freaked out when I told her about it.  But I didnt lose any sleep over it.  The guy tried to up his game from old people and women and discovered what it was like to rob a man instead of acting like a punk kid robbing old women.

Hi,

Thank you for the detail.  I really am going to have to think this through.  Not a problem to take my pistol out of pocket and where it is handy, nor is it a problem to put a round in the chamber.  My pistol has the back covered so you could drop it with a round in the chamber and it would not fire.  I guess I have rationalized that I could chamber a round if I felt I was in a bad area, and have actually done so once or twice.  Now my wife has a revolver so that is a non-issue with her.  Guess I really need to do the same thing.

Thanks again,

Isn't it terrible when a guy finds out he's been living a lie all these years?

 :rotf:

Just messin' with ya!   :-)
