About this "twenty inches of global warming"

Edited on Mon Feb-08-10 08:06 PM by Kurt_and_Hunter
Republicans think it's funny as hell to refute global warming by pointing out that it's cold in the winter. But this latest mocking of what is going to be easily the worst winter in Washington D.C. history is too much.

The Virginia Republican Party, during a state-wide crisis, mocked the storm as "20 inches of global warming." Ha. Ha.

Is snow caused by cold? No. Snow is caused by water meeting cold.

During the winter in mid and northern climes it is almost always COLD enough to snow at night but it doesn't snow every night. The missing ingredient is WATER. Cold air cannot hold much water. (The dew-point thingy)

How does all this water get into the air? HEAT. Warm air holds more water. Warm oceans evaporate faster.

I don't know that this series of storms is climate-change related, but climate change would be likelier to cause dramatic events like high snow-total storms than to prevent them.

This is anecdote, but since I was glued to the Weather Channel last week... The giant low pressure system that dumped all the snow last week was centered off-shore in the Atlantic. It was over the gulf stream and the ocean water there was 65 degrees... much warmer than the air. (The gulf stream is always warm, of course. Just noting that it isn't COLD that pumps all this moisture up in the atmosphere to then slam into Canadian air.)

So yes, morans... maybe it is twenty inches of global warming and now DC is going to get another twenty inches of maybe global warming tomorrow.

And they'll have a big laugh about that also.

Never mind the data was made up and falsified global climate change is real cuz we say so.  :mental:

The simple fact is every slight variation from "normal temperatures" is immediately dubbed as proof of global climate change. If it is colder than it was last year or hotter than 10 years ago. The primitive mind can not grasp the simple concept that the earth's climate changes constantly. It's not caused by cow farts and SUVs it's all the natural cycle. In 20 years when the temperature of the planet is cooler we will hear of the coming ice ages.

2. too much science for the morans, alas. "global climate change" makes so much more sense.

Yeah we are stoopid for not believing in false data.  :mental:

33. Scientists need to take marketing courses before they come up with labels.

Very few Americans who have been hit with record snowfalls could be convinced of global "warming", but "climate change" makes sense.

I have a better term it's called weather. Weather changes that is why we have weather men and a whole cable teevee network dedicated to changing weather.

Once again we are the stupid ones for not buying fake data.

6. I sometimes use a simple little analogy talking to the deniers:

You can drive from Houston to Denver and will go up a lot of hills. You'll also go DOWN a lot of them on the way but you will still end up a mile higher than you started.

What has that got to do with anything?

15. I've tried, many times, to explain this to them. They're just too thick.

As though a +3° change in Global AVERAGE temperature means that temperate climes won't get cold in the winter. :eyes:

It does mean that the atmosphere can hold more water, which, when temps dip, means more rain and snow.

They are such simple-minded morans it makes me want to tear my hair out. There's just so much damn stupid in this nation.

It's impossible, they can't learn... I've tried.

Yeah silly us not buying false data.

26. People should be forced to study

ALL scientific phenomena they wish to spout about before they are EVER given a microphone. These assholes that bloviate publicly about global warming while holding degrees in PolySci and Law should be mocked mercilessly by everyone else on TV.

Then algore would have to shut up. He made the claim that the center of the earth is several million degrees.

Why?  Why wouldn't climate change be just as likely to make it a very dry and bitterly cold winter?  Idiot, you're contradicting yourself in that one sentence.

It was warmer 450 years ago. Greenland was green.

There have been several cooling and warming trends over the past few thousand years.

Humans had nothing to do with any of them, just like the last 10 years of cooling.

I tried to show someone just how insignificant 350ppm (or whatever the number is) of CO2 really is.

To prove my point, I told them to take a sport venue that holds 100,000 people, and dress them in blue T-shirts to represent the atmosphere.  I then asked him how many would you have to dress in red to represent CO2.  The DUmbass said 350!  (Real answer is 35.)

Just how can 35 molecules of CO2 among 100,000 cause GW is beyond me, and apparently, DUmmies can't seem to understand that CO2 is not a pollutant; it's PLANT FOOD!
Murphy's 3rd Law:  "You can't make anything 'idiot DUmmie proof'.  The world will just create a better idiot DUmmie."

Liberals are like Slinkys.  Basically useless, but they do bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs...

Global warming supporters believe that a few hundred million tons of CO2 has more control over our climate than a million mile in diameter, unshielded thermo-nuclear fusion reactor at the middle of the solar system.
