WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama's decision not to participate in an annual summit with European Union leaders is feeding doubts about whether Washington views Europe as a strong player on the international stage.

The president's decision was announced days before Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, who was to host the summit in Madrid, arrives Wednesday on a two-day visit to Washington. Zapatero, whose nation now holds the EU's rotating presidency, was not scheduled to meet with Obama but may have a chance to speak with him at Thursday's annual National Prayer Breakfast, where the Spanish prime minister was to give a Bible reading.
Good luck with that, Zapatero. Obama was a no-show at the national day of prayer...showing up to a prayer breakfast means he will have to get up early.

This isn't the first world leader who has trouble contacting our president. This is beginning to concern me.

It seems that it is mainly the leaders from democracies that have trouble meeting with him.

Considering Zapatero is nearly as much of a socialist as Obama and Ooooo-go, you'd think he'd be all up in that.  Then again, maybe his emo/goth/WTFIT? daughters just creep him out as much as they do everyone else.
