Obama: Hold GOP accountable for their opposition
« on: January 29, 2010, 12:47:52 PM »
Obama tells GOP: Bi-partisan means you go MY WAY!!

http://www.politico.com/politico44/perm/0110/step_up_to_the_plate_a6940f4e-c0f2-4ee9-b74f-2d54f0d00a6e.html

From POLITICO Playbook -- The White House plans to step up efforts to hold Republicans accountable for cooperation. Said communications director Dan Pfeiffer: "There are 59 Democratic Senators now. They're at 41, the Republicans now have a responsibility to govern. In Year 1, they sat on the sidelines and were willing to leave governing in this challenging time to Democrats alone. They have a responsibility now to partner with the President, to try to get things done for the American people. With 59 Senators, it is mathematically impossible for Democrats to do everything on their own. So Republicans can either try to block all progress on all issues at this critical time -- or they can step up to the plate and work to actually do things for the American people. The question is not [the president's] sincerity; it's the willingness of the Republican Party to work with him to get things done. ? He'll do a lot of what he's done before, which is meet with the Republicans, talk to the on the phone. He's done a lot, but you'll certainly see more."
......
Of course they gave this to the Politico first, their good media buddy.

With everything this guy says, my doubts about him increase.  :(

He talks about bipartisanship and one sentence later is trying to lecture the other side of the aisle for being obstructionist. I'm not sure if he's deliberately trying to use the press to make the conservative side of the aisle look like the bad guys, or if he really thinks his tone will work... anybody with half a brain in their head can see it's breeding resentment, though. He's saying the 'right things', in a way - it's true that we need to stop demonizing our fellow Americans - but he is not following through with his actions or even speech.

If I were in his shoes (and I claim to be no political mastermind), I would have started this whole process by saying: my campaign was heavily based on promises of bipartisanship. As a way to build trust, instead of using OUR stalled plan and just picking bits of yours out that we can use, we'll use YOUR plan and merely ask you to consider our proposals about it.

Fat chance of that happening, though...

Translation:  We had a super majority and couldn't get jack squat accomplished because of political infighting within our own party.  If things don't get done now, we are going to blame the republicans, even though we couldn't do that before.

I would think that the GOP should be proud and will benefit from their "opposition".

Be careful what you wish for O,an arrogant and stupid mind like yours doesn`t grasp reality so it will be shoved down your throat.

The GOP should insist on being recognized as the "Party of No".

Saying "NO!" to crappy socialism is bonafide governing too.

This effort to shame the GOP is a bit odd considering the fact they have been on the same side as the majority of the American people - a majority that grows larger everyday.

The GOP should be pumping their own horn shouting, "WE SAID NO, DAMMIT!"

I prefer they claim to be the party of "know", as in we know your policies suck so we are voting no.

Let me close by saying this: I was not elected by Democrats or Republicans, but by the American people. That's especially true because the fastest-growing group of Americans are independents. That should tell us both something.

It's been the fastest growing for the past year and you're the reason.

But understand, if we can't break free from partisan gridlock, if we can't move past the politics of no, if resistance supplants constructive debate, I still have to meet my responsibilities as president.

I will get my way, one way or the other.

The Q & A is just more of the same evasive  :bs:

Barry is such a whiny kid. He cries and blames republicans when it was his own party, the democrats, that couldn't pass the stuff he wanted.
All he needed was for the democrats to stand together and the bills would have been signed into law by now. On the plus side most Americans do not want what he is selling so if he gives them the credit for stopping him it could boost GOP support in 2010.

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

And the Dems should be known as the "Party of Yes, I'll buy that, it's not like it's my own money or anything!"

I think the Independents will continue to hold the Democrats accountable for their march toward socialism.   November 2010 can't come fast enough.
